D'Allara Drop Point Question For Sal

Hi Sal,
How would you rate the ball bearing lock on this?
I like the feel of the rescue version, but the standard edge drop point blade interests me more.
Denis

We made the handle thinner. Enlarged the access opening to the ball. Both changes made the ball more easily accessed.

The blade shape is more versatile. Pretty easy open. Works well in Pakal.

Sal,
You have answered a question I ask on an earlier thread, but no one responded. The ball cut out or opening is wider, so to make for better access to ball, great. A thinner handle is good too. Thank You, also.
I have one on the way and wondered how others liked there's. I think I will like that blade, looks great.

How strong is that lock? (I know- how high is up? :) ) How would you compare it to a Mannix, for example?
Denis

The D'Allara lock is rated heavy duty by our standards. Pressure testing breaks the D'Allara at about 125 inch/lbs per inch of blade length. The Manix is very heavy duty at over 200 inch/lbs per inch of blade length.

Interesting...I assumed that it weighed the same as the last one (5.75 ounces) Is this one lighter? What's it weigh?

Thanks, Sal. That's what I needed to know.
I'll get with Joyce. Quite impressed with the Rescue model in ergonomics, conception & construction, just a limited use blade and this new version has greater applicability. Looks like a good design!

Hi Blue Man,

We also skeletonized the stainless steel liners so the weight is down to 4.79 oz.

Sal....

Still a bit heavy for me, but we're moving in the right direction, so I'm happy. :)

I love my D'Allara.
thanks Sal, with the additions made to the dp i bet it will be one of the best knives in production. I cant wait.

Sal,
Just arrived, very nice. Like the ball bearing lock, easy to close one-handed without too much shifting around in the hand.
Can you please build a Mannix with rounded scales like these? :D
This little Ocelot's intriguing, too. You guys are getting better and better!
Tell Joyce thanks.

Saberman,
Hollowground VG-10.

Hey, I wandering what kind of grind the D'Allara has and is there going to be a Jr.?

I would love to see a Jr. version of this knife. It's got absolutely everything I want to see in an EDC except that it's just bigger than I want to carry. Come on Sal, give a 3" blade: 4" closed D'Allara Drop Point.

I'd really like to see the Ocelot (which I love btw) with a full flat grind. It would cut so much better. Great design, which is expected from Tim Wegner, and outstanding build quality. I wasn't impressed with the build quality on my Stretch (Kraton kept coming off and there was a lot of side-to-side play in the blade, as well as slop in the lock) I fixed the side to side play with a brass hammer, and wound up trading the knife after a week to a friend who wasn't bothered by the problems.

If this was true, I would buy one in a second.
