Well, I am excited anyway. This is just a prototype and not really pretty but she works great. Looks like my typical gent's folder, but she is a bolster release auto!

It took me six design iterations to get her to this point. My main goal was to make my Gent's Folder an auto and not change the profile of the original. That was not easy since there is not any internal room for lever springs and all that jazz.

Anyway, here are a couple pics. And yes, I will counter bore all holes on the final damascus versions, and give her a good fit and finish ;) . Plus I took a little video snippet (about 650K) to show you the action and the awesome "thwaaak" she has when opening. From looking at the video frame by frame, she only takes 1 frame to fully open. So about 0.042 of a second from closed to open. Make sure to look at the tail end of the knife while she opens, you can see the nice kick that she has.

I should be ready to start making these in a few weeks, so if you are interested in pre-ordering feel free to shoot me an email or give me a call.

Selling prices is: $475 (includes insured shipping to the CONUS and a zippered pouch)

Here is what a typical "dressed up" knife will look like (various wood and synthetic scale materials available). This particular knife has a damascus pattern that I delveloped a while ago. It is an option but will add to the knife price. Included in the $475 is single star twist damascus.

Sorry about that. By design the specs are:

Blade Length.........2.89 inches
Over All Length......6.61 inches
Max Width............ 0.73 inches
Blade Width...........0.62 inches
Max thickness........0.48 inches
Weight.................2.5 ounces

They usually come out pretty darn close to that but they all very a little bit.

I use 0.050 6AL-4V for the liners and can anodize them to the color you want. Construction is with stainless steel screws and all heat treating is done with computer controlled molten salts. I heat treat the blade, bolsters, and back bar so the contrast is consistant in all the damascus pieces.

Thanks for the interest and please feel free to ask any and all questions.

I am new to this site, recommended by a long time member.
Looking for this type of knife.
What are my options for scales & bolsters?
Thanks
bbb

For the blade material I can do C1095 high carbon steel or my Damascus (1095 and 15N20). I do not work in stainless steel, as I don't have the facilities to heat treat it myself, and I take great pride in being sole authorship. With either the 1095 blade or the Damascus blade, the back spacer and bolsters will match the blade.

If you want different bolster materials, I can do plain high carbon steel bosters, pure nickel bolsters, nickel silver bolsters, or even mokume bolsters. Some of those materials (like pure nickel and mokume) will add extra cost to the knife.

For scale materials I can do what is readily available to me and include it in the price. Materials that are readily available to me are African Blackwood, Redwood Burl, Amboyna Burl, Thuya Burl, Maple Burl (in natural and dyed colors), Beng Burl, and carbon fiber. I can use what ever you would like as long as I can find it. The only materials that I can think of that would increase the price would be MOP or Ivory (but I am sure there are others).

The Damascus version is $475 and the non-Damascus version is $375.

Well, seems like it has been a while since I got anything done and it has. But I haven't been slacking, just refining and tweaking. ;)

Here is what I have so far. Blade and bolsters are out of 204 layer single twist 1095 and 15N20 Damascus. Back bar is 1095 steel with a gun blued finish, liners are anodized 6Al-4V Titanium, and the scales are Thuya Burl.

She is still a bit "tight" so I need to figure out if I have to modify things, or if she is going to break in a bit with use. Other than having to replace the planned Damascus back bar with a high carbon steel one, every thing is going well.

Let me know what you think, good or bad, I want to hear it. TIA

this is fine work! and sounds like you put a lot of care and workmanship into your knives. Congrats!

that is one beautiful knife. Like the bolster release since it keeps things so clean. Your gallery and available knife area on your site is not working for me.
