Are there any decent quality damascus folders out there that could be a daily carry knife, for under $150? SMKW has "Bear" damascus folders, but i don't know anything about the quality and AG Russell has factory "seconds" with damascus and cocobolo for $99.00

I don't have anything in damascus, and think it would be cool to have one for the carry rotation. As always, I appreciate your sage counsel.

Check out the Boker Damascus Folder Knives, I have positive experience with these Boker knives and just resently bought a Damascus. Some of these Damascus models start at 150.

Good luck.

try "mcusta" knives...on ebay. they have vg10 damascus for less than $150. looks good too....

When Buck gets going again in Idaho, their custom shop offers Damascus.

Other than its appearance, is there any valid reason to use Damascus steel? I've noticed that no one says anything about its Rc hardness or any other physical property but everyone rhapsodizes about the appearance. What possible benefits can it have compared to high-line ( 440C, ATS34, 154CM, etc.) modern steels?

BTW, Sierra Trading Post also had a Bear Damascus folder in a recent catalog. Try their web site to see if it's still available and the cost.

The benefit is that it looks a whole lot more cool. Good damascus can perform just as well as those other steels, while looking good too.

As for what knife to buy, get anything other than Bear. The Bear damascus sucks, seriously.

Hi Droppoints, Damascus looks cool and can be very hard to, my Boker Leo-Damascus is 65rc 300 layers.

Kind regards.

Droppoints, my Damascus holds an edge as well as any other knife I own. It doesnt stay hair poppin' sharp like BG42, but it keeps cutting and cutting.

I'm looking at it for its appearance. My knives generally don't get a particularly had work out. But, since I've started reading bladeforums, I have to research into a knife before I get it and I don't want to bother with a crappy knife.
