Ok,

Just won two razors on ebay. Spent the weekend with my little brother who picked up a nice razor. Now I need a razor.

The first is antiquish seneca chief with a stained, but otherwise good blade. The second is a NIB Master USA 440 "china" blade... with pakkawood handle.

Seems that the pakka wood looks more like laminate to me. Also, it has a secondary bevel???? Not very sharp either, neither will shave arm hair. I think the seneca will sharpen up nice though... but the other seems to have too thick a profile.

Before you kill me, I realize I did not spend Dovo money, but can I get these to a functional level?

I just want to shave. Once I get good, then I will spend some $$.

Thanks,

The seneca will hone & strop up nicely as long as you use the right stone & strop.

Hit or miss about the China blade. I had a Paki razor that I spent weeks honing but the steel was just too soft to hold an edge.

It is unlikely that you'll get the Masters to an acceptable level for shaving with. A few that have tried with similar blades have found that if it can getting to a good level of sharpness, it quickly fades.

I'd put my effort into the Seneca. If you like that, then you can expand to some better gear.

Thanks for the info.

What to do with the masters? It's new in box... are there any projects or uses for it other than opening mail?

Thanks,
