Does anyone know anything about Darby knives? I went into a local knife store and they had a 2" blade 3-finger handle tanto, the blade was BEAUTIFUL damascus, "etched" or whatever so that it's mostly hi-polish black with silver ripples. WOW. stangely, however, although the (nickel?) bolsters were nice, the bone handle was not too impressive, slightly discolored & not fitted seamlessly to the bolster. Anyway, I went to James Darby's website, where it announces the 1997 knife shows he'll be attending. Is he still producing? (My email to him hasn't been responded to yet). I didn't get a chance to inspect this one as thoroughly as I would have liked. Does anyone have his knives, and if so, what do they think? The steel is almost too beautiful to use, but I would want this as a pocket-knife, and wonder how it would hold up to simple daily chores. What is his work going for these days (I'm guessing the prices quoted on his site, from 1997, might have gone up since then). ANY info is appreciated. thanks - FF

If this is Jed Darby, I can give some info. I once bought a damascus bladed hunter from him(a long time ago, before I became edjumacated), and got home and started to look it over really closely. I noticed a very strange line right behind the bolster area. He had welded a piece of mild steel to the damascus blade. I always thought that was a cheesy thing to do. Not sure if he is making knives anymore.
