Here are a few photos of my Walter Davis Bowie and its new Sharpshooter Sheath Systems sheath.

With a great sheath I finely have a way to safely carry this sharp beast in the woods.

My thanks to Walt, Reid (Sharpshooter), and, of course, Marcelo (for making it happen).

A question about the sheath. Is there some way to keep that leather strip tight? I like it.

This is my fifth sheath with this retention system.

I was not sure I liked it when Reid first changed to this design for Bark River Rogue Bowie sheaths.

But I have come to really appreciate it in use.

For casual use, the friction of the leather strap running through the leather holes will keep the blade in place, or for a more secure hold you can tie it off.

But what I like to do is to keep it tied (as shown in the photo above) when I’m transporting or storing the big knifes.

Once I put the knife into use (on belt or baldric), I un-loop the strap from the handle, pull it flat to the belt loop, and tie of the excess material behind the sheath.

This takes the strap out of the way, I can draw and re-sheath the knife without fumbling with snaps or straps, and the big blades stay safely in the sheath just by friction and gravity.

I have hiked and climbed in rough terrain this way for many miles, and have never had an issue. In fact, as one who is constantly using my knife on the trail, the lack of any kind retention device makes this style of sheath a pleasure for me to use.

Very nice knife and sheath. I have a sharpshooter sheath with my Bark River Bowie. One of the best sheath's I have ever seen. The only other sheath I have that I like as much is on my Skyblade Madison 6 which is a pouch type made from saddle leather. what are the spec's on that Bowie?

Holy Smokes, that's a great looking sheath:thumbup: Eventually I'll have to make you a knife worthy of it:p, but that one doesn't look too bad in it:D

Walt, it’s a great knife, well balanced and fast in the hand.

The blade, with it full distal taper, nice edge to spine height and slight clip appeals to both aesthetically and functionally.

If I where to change anything it would be in the handle.

Some nice wood scales and some material removed to create a more pronounced pinky hook is what I have in mind.

Maybe even some fancy pins.

If I get some time this winter I will tackle the project.
