Not trying to rub in the fact that the Dodo has been killed off but did we ever have any doubts? As soon as I first heard the name, I said to myself, this one is destined to go the way of the Dodo. Who names a knife that anyway?

What would you name it? I think Eric did a great job with the Dodo, I do hope to see it reincarnated in the future when the public are more open to it. Probably around the time when balis and autos become legal here.

I'd like to see a version with a "leaf" blade.

I think the handle is great. But I suppose the ball could have been a tad bigger (for all the fat fingered people out there).

The handle is soooo ingenius, it would be a crime NOT TO USE for other blade profiles. One of the best for sure, I'm very very sad that it's gone:( :( :(

....but at least it gives us a sprint run to look forward to ;) :D

I'd like to see it come back in silver twill G10 with a ZDP-189 gently curved hawkbill blade (keep the original design for the upper half of the blade though)

:D

Dodo is a great name if you look at the blade profile, it does strongly resemble its name sake. the Dodo is imho the BEST little big knife offered by Spyderco ever.
Cheers,
Rob

Obviously there are lots of fans of the Dodo out there, but when I've handled them (couple times), the blade somehow reminded me of a box cutter. No insult intended at all, but I can get a box cutter for a lot less....

Plus, too many complaints about how to sharpen it with that tip on there. I agree, though; the handle is fantastic. Maybe a more traditional style blade would have worked better? :)

Mine grew on me right up until I traded it. I am not sure yet if I miss it or not. Such a small blade with such a large handle. The blade was not good for some things like cutting a sandwich in half. I like a knife to be able to do more than I think the Dodo was able to do. What it did, it well but that is not enough to justify carrying it. It would have to be a second or third knife for me and I don't normally carry more than one knife.

Hardly dead--mine arrives tomorrow.

But yes, I would have liked a more conventional blade shape...we'll see about this one, never used one like this. But I do like 3 inch and shorter blades to be accompanied by full sized handles, and Spyderco is the only company I know that does that, so I've got a para and now a Dodo. Maybe a yojimbo down the road.

I could not sharpen mine at all. :o I guess it was the combo of my lack of skills, plus S30V, plus the unusual recurve. It was never as sharp as it was fresh out of the box. I even took it to a reputable knife shop to have it professionally sharpened but it lost its edge rather quickly after some plastic bundle strap. Someday I'll send it into Spyderco to have it sharpened. In the meantime it sits in a drawer. :(

I love my cricket as a little EDC and I image I'd love the dodo just and much if not more. depends on the handle. first tiem I tried to sharpen the cricket I didn't do too well but just today I got it back to pretty much factory razor sharpness. I think I made thetip sharper than it was before. I like it, starts cuts super easy. love the little guy. Just don't see a need for another knife with the same blade right now otherwise I'd be all over the Dodo.
