I almost purchased a Caly Jr. but held off as I prefer tip up carry so the Delica looks like a good choice. There is one thing about the design, judging from a pic I saw, that seemed a bit less than ideal though. The clip holes are just below the lanyard hole which would tend to make the knife ride higher in the pocket. I would think most people would use either a lanyard or the clip but not both so I'm wondering if the clip holes could be relocated closer to the end of the handle.

Thanks

Normally the response is "that would require extra tooling, therefore being very expensive for Spyderco to do".

This case is an exception whereas the Delica is in the process of being updated, the new ZDP-189 will reflect those changes. Unfortunately you are a little late and it sounds like all the modifications are done and set in stone. A lot of requests for lower pocket carry were made, so it is possible that is one of the modifications set in stone. Hopefully there will be some proto pictures of the new Delica/Endura designs soon.

Where did you see this picture? I have only seen the ZDP delica with the current handle and clip design.

AFAIK there are no pictures of the new designs. The pictures of the navy blue Delica with ZDP-189 in the sprint run flyer are of the old design that was slated to be a laminate. Sal announced that the ZDP-189 Delica's date was pushed back because Sal decided to do solid ZDP opposed to the laminate, and also announced that the ZDP-189 will be the new Delica design, not the one that was previously pictured. Kinda confusing....

I spoke too soon! A few hours after my post and this comes up:

Smokin!!! And I don't say "smokin" very often!

I was hoping for a wider flat grind, but I guess I can customize that myself if I really need to.

It's got the best parts of the Jester--small ridges on the blade, ridges on the handle, and the cool circular grip pattern.

I hope the screw rivets make it to production (EDIT: I see on the other forum it's mentioned that they are for real). I would love to be able to take the blades off of all my delicas to polish down the little imperfections.

I don't know if it's from the loss of the barrel clip attachment or if it's influenced by fans of the pre-98 delica/endura, but I am glad to see the curve returned to the rump of the handle!

It looks like the foremost choil, intended for 2 fingers, is better suited for that purpose than the current model. Just a little deeper up front.

Good move, IMO, putting the spider on the blade. The unique logo was almost wasted on previous models because it was not evident enough. Lots of people, even non-collectors, knew what a spyderco was, and the round hole too, but when I let people play with my knives the little logo was always new to them. Spider on the blade = good stuff! I hope this also stays when the knife is in full production.

I think I'll buy 3, anyone else?

So who else is gonna buy a trainer too so they can swap handles and make the first "real" red Spyderco this millenium?
