I wish I learnt about the SHOT show earlier. Is there a possibility to obtain a pass to the SHOT show even though I'm not a trade member? Would anyone be so saintly as to pass out a badge like for the BLADE show?

btw, I'm joining the OWAA as a student member, anyone knows how long it takes to get it?

maybe finally I'll be able to handle the spyderfly seeing how it's banned in CA.

It's really worth the trip. Lots of cool toys to play with:) If you need a pass, talk to your local gun or knife shop and see if they will hook you up.

HS,
The Show is put on by the National Shooting Sports Foundation, and they are the only people who issue passes to get in. You have to apply to them for the pass, and you have to convince them that you're in the outdoors industry somehow.
Membership in the Outdoor Writers Association would do it, but it may be too late for this year to apply to NSSF and get a pass in time. I'm not sure what the cutoff date is.
Good luck.

In the past I have been with people who walked up, filled out the paperwork, paid the charge (around $25) and got a pass.....dont know about now, go to their website, you can still register and pick up a pass at the registration counter....I think

Tom's right, I apologise, I was just thinking about advance registration since that's the way I always do it.
You can register at the Show and get a pass, but you still have to convince them that you're in the industry. A letter from a local gunshop or outdoor retailer saying you're an employee or a rep can be enough, but it would be a long drive to Vegas to be turned away at the registration counter if the people there aren't satisfied with it. Your best bet would be to contact somebody at the NSSF directly, in advance, and ask them what you'd need to have with you if you just show up at the registration desk.
Don't go without knowing what they'll need to give you a pass, and don't bother contacting the Vegas Convention Center for info, the Con Center doesn't give out the passes. The passes carry your name and the company you represent, and you'll be checked for one each time you go back into an exhibition floor door.
If you go, take a pair of very good walking shoes if you plan to see much. It's a huge show, we work as much of it as we can and still don't see everything in the four days it runs.

Go to your local office supply store and get some of those laser-cut blank business cards that work in a computer printer. Make yourself up a logo for "Horizon Seeker Sporting Goods." Print up some nice-looking cards and head for SHOT. Register at the door and just attach your new "Business Card" to the form.

The basic fact is that they want to let you in. The higher their attendance is, the more they can charge exhibitors for space. They love the look of the show being full since that's what exhibitors want to see. But, SHOT markets itself as an industry tradeshow. The exhibitors are there to sell to people "in the business." So, SHOT needs to make some effort to screen out the riff-raff. A nice business card will get you through the screen.

In line with what Gollnick said about the screening, I was told by the NSSF last week that the exhibitors were complaining so much in the past about who was being allowed to get in that the NSSF has tightened things up this year. This was during a telephone discussion over a badge for my wife.
Just FYI.

sooooooooooooooo............all the more reason to get on the website and register ahead of time.

I have gotten in plenty of times just by saying I was a knifemaker.
I have also gone on my buddy's gunstore pass. Its not hard.......but you should do it in advance

Hell last time I was there a buddy of mine just walked in... Nobody said anything. I wouldnt suggest this route though, but it shouldnt be a prob to get a pass at the show...

Kit and Mayo, see you guys there!

looks like I won't make it this year with the restrictions.

OWAA looks like will take a while with their screening process, and I just said forget it and went ahead and handed in a application with turner's outdoors for a weekend job (in addition to my regular 40-hour week job), at least this will be a more or less sure way to get in, right? god I hope so.
