I was looking at my rather rusty looking DMT diafold today, thinking it badly needed cleaning. I happened to notice that I had a white vinyl pencil eraser on hand. I tried it, and it worked REALLY WELL. It cleaned out nearly all the rusty steel particles very quickly, and afterwards the stone cut noticeably better. I did this on both the coarse and fine sides, with the stones dry. It seems that the soft rubber picks up the steel just like pencil graphite and is then swept away.
