im specifically talking about the cr123 lithium batteries, are there actually any differences in teh brands? like with a AA batter a duracell will last longer then a eveready or similar cheaper brand. does brand really matter and which ones seem to be the best?

As far as batteries are concerned I prefer Duracell or Procell. Since I use them for my work I decided to test some of the lithium batteries against each other. I ran them in my Surefire D2 with a P61 lamp. I know this isn't real scientific, but I just wanted to see what would happen before we started ordering them in bulk. Also, not every battery off the line is the same, so these results could vary. The Duracell Ultras ran for 27 min. The regular Duracell's ran for 25 min. Eveready's ran 25 min. The Sanyo's ran for 23 min. So the Duracell is a better battery. I guess you have to choose if you want to pay more for a longer run time or get by cheaper and replace the batteries more often. Since I did that test I have also started using Surefire Batteries. They seem to hold the initial white bright light the longest, but they are the most expensive. The Sanyos start to yellow after about a min or so. In a low drain situation or digital camera the sanyos are the cheapest to run, but for preformance I like the Surefire and then the Duracell or energizers.

hmm.. so there is about a 2 minute differece, since the p61 time and the p60 time is about 3x difference, so there is abuot a 6 minute differece if i use the p60, what im concerned with is holding the white light, you said the sanyo loses it's white light after a short time, so i guess the best bet is duracell and then energizer for me

how is the quality of the panasonic brand batteries?
how about toshiba? how long does it hold the white light before it turns yellow?

I haven't used Panasonic or Toshiba so I can't say. The other option is bug Surefire to hurry up and release their new fully regulated lights, then it won't matter what battery you use, they will all be the same brightness, but the cheaper ones just won't last as long, I can't wait...

what do you mean fully regulated lights? are these new models?
how do they work

Are there any 123A Procells? I have a friend at church who buys Procells for everything, and he could probably pick some up for me if they exist. :)

Manji,

Check out the Surefire forum, or CPF. All of your lighting questions can be answered there. BTW, BFC member Brock is a distinguished and respected Moderator on CPF...

Spark, sorry about using bandwith to pump up other sites...I'll try not to do it too much...

Aloha

Manji, Surefire had a "digital" light demo at the shot show last year. What it does is take any voltage from the batteries and adjusts it to exactly what makes the lamp white and bright and keeps it there until the batteries are just about dead. So it looks like brand new batteries are in the light all the time, even if they are about 90% dead.

Does that make since?

And yes, I am guessing it will be sort of expensive. But for me I tend to swap out the batteries after about 20 to 30 min of use (then put them in my M6) to get that really bright white, so it will save me in battery costs.
