As promised. The big surprise? Roller bearing within the tang ala Ericksons. But made with much better tolerances. Even bigger surprise? This one came with only 2 phosphorus bronze bushings.

Hey Mike, I think you owe me 2 bushings :D

Edited to include: I've been corrected Those are not roller bearings in the pivot, those are SOLID BUSHINGS!!!! I apologize in misleading eveyone. I did not correct this oversite in a timely manner. :o
 
Wow! It doesn't have the sound of roller bearings that others have had. I remain unable to get the screws on mine to budge with reasonable manual torque. I'm afraid that if I torque any harder, I'll damage the screw head.
 
I recently broke the head of a t-8 driver off in my BM42's pivot pin while tryin to loosen it. I finally did do the neessary repairs with the broken driver and my bali is tight as ever now.

Very easy, if you don't have any problems with the torx screws. Less than 2 minutes for me. Do the latch first, then one side of the inserts, and then the pivots. The handles comes apart much easier that way. Reassembly is about 5 minutes, with the inserts being the most time consuming.

For the record, I have several sets of torx screw drivers, and for those tough ones, I whip out my Wiha T handled ones. They give the best leverage control and have the best tempered heads I've found on the market. Pricey, but well worth it.
 
Tony, where did you get your torx set?

I went to Walmart and Radio shack and had no luck. The only t-8 I could find(at Pep Boys)was a drill bit that I had to hold with a wrench in order to use.

I got my Wiha T-handled torx drivers when I was in college from an Engineering supply house. You can find decent sets at Sears or Home Depots. Really good ones can be found from Jewelry, Hobby or Knifemaking supply houses. My favorite right now is www.micro-tools.com. They have a 7 piece set (T6/7/8/9/10/15/20) L-Key Torx set by Wiha that's only $9.90. Parts number is 36392. Or for a little more money, you can have the Wing Handled set (same sizes) with better control for $17.40. Part number for that is 36590. But the best ones are the ones with free-rotating caps. You can apply pressure to the screw heads and still spin the shaft. 6 piece set (no T20) for $27.15. Part number is 26790. Happy shopping.
 
Thanks guys, but will the t-6 fit the latch screw? It looks much smaller than the pivot pins.

Here are the torx sizes you'll need:
Latch screw: T6
Insert screws: T8
Pivot screw: T10
 
That's odd, the T-10 I tried didn't fit my pivot screws, it was much to big. That's why I had to get the t-8...I'm confused.

Nope, definitely T10 for the pivot. Confirmed it on my #132 and on my Prototype. :confused:

OK, not you personally, but MT does. Shouldn't they come with 4 bushings? one on each side of the blade to handle contact? I only got 2 with #132. I have 4 with my Prototype. :confused:

I have 4 busings in mine. And I counted 4 in your pic. Are you drinking Bacardi Limon? That is what I drink and sometimes I see only half of what I thought I saw :)
 
Sorry just looked again at your pic. I only see 2 gold looking busings. If so then YES we owe you two bushings!
 
Mine is the same as yours Tony..(took it apart today)..with basically the exact same tools (but with "wing-handles")...also (2) bushings.., but also #154 <~~ by far not a "Proto"...but a fun piece of machining to obsess over huh! :)

I wrote Mike, just because I was the "Ultimate Skeptic".., but boy these guys are nice!

So let's "bond" and send Mike (30) emails each per day about a "macro-model" <~~ just teasing Mike... a really nice Balisong as I mentioned in our "Typed Converstaion".

Mr. Yoda??? You actually broke the head off of a Torx #8 on a BM pivot pin??? If that is the exact case.., I'd truly consider get some high quality "Torx" stuff. The sizes Tony mentioned are exactly correct.., but I did go through a period of buying the cheaper Torx hardware simply because I thought it was probably just as good (I do lots of dumb stuff) :)

I think we all need to get the "Real Guy" tools to do any disassembly of the nicer pieces that are coming out now, and I also think we can actually help by taking them apart and giving some feedback.

I certainly realize I'm not going to fabricate/design anything in this domain (it's not what I do for a living), but I've goofed around with them enough to know some "little stuff".., and obviously our input has had some impact..., which is a good thing when standard knife makers merge with Balisong lovers. :cool:
