I have tried twice to order knives from Discount Knives of the Internet. Twice, I have been lied to and never recieved any product. The first time after an email asking status, I was told that the product had shipped. After a few weeks and another email, I was told that I had provided the wrong credit card number and the order was never processed!

I gave the site the benefit of the doubt and tried a second time to order a differen pair of knives. I was told that one (an Emerson Commander) was on back order but that the other (an Emerson Le Grife) was available. I was then asked if I wanted it shipped now. I aksed for this to be done. Again a few weeks and no product. So, another email about status and agin I was told the knife shipped November 29. Three weeks later, no product. Another email and a promise to trace it down. From this point on, I never heard another thing unless I sent an inquirey. After repeated attempts to learn what the heck was going on, including the question, :was this knife ver shipped?" I never got a clear answer. Only when I threatend to take action would I get an email that would state "it was being looked into." So on January 20 (12 weeks after I placed the order) I finally gave up and cancelled. My only reply was "thanks for your kind words. I hope we can do business in the future." This is a terrible site and the person running it is dishonest. I urge that you do not order from this site!

I've bought many knives from Brian and i
never had a problem other than getting thru
on the phone.Best to just E-mail orders.Know
quite a few folks who buy from him and never
heard nothing bad. Can't beat the prices.

I find it hard to believe that you're talking about Brian @ DiscountKnives.com. My experience doing business with him was extremely positive. Great price and immediate shipping.

That would be the exception to the rule with Brian. I've ordered 20-plus knives from him without a hitch.
I've got one on the way as we speak, and I'm confident I'll have it on the 4th when it's needed.
Something has to be wrong. Did you get a
"confirming" email ?

I have ordered from Brian and must express that I was given great prices and service. Yes, I have called before and did not get a live person, but a recording. I can live with that in order for a small busines man to survive.

"Mistakes happen, if the wrong card number was given or processed, then no product would be shipped. All dealers want to make sales (profits), what motivation would one have to not charge you and ship the product if everything was correct."

"I currently have a US Postal Money Order lost somewhere in the mail enroute to another forumite for a knife. I feel bad, but once it is mailed, I have no control. I am currently in the process of sending a 2nd MO for the same knife. Am I unhappy? Yes, not with him (the seller) but with the Post Office for making me wait to receive this knife and the prospect that I am out an additional 85.00 dollars."

"My only other observation is that your first post on the forum was to complain about a reputable dealer that supports the forums and has provided excellent service to a number of us"

It is VERY unusual to hear of a complaint on Brian. I don't doubt thet something unfortunate has happened here, but sounds as if communication may be at least part of the problem.I am absolutely sure that he will make things right if at all possible, if you will use Email only, and make it clear what you want done. Discount Knives is traditionally one of the best dealers doing business on the internet!

Guys,

Just a thought.. Could it be that Smoky was referring to KnifeCenter, instead of Discountknives?

The reason I say this, is because if you log into KnifeCenter, you'll see exactly what Smoky was referring to, "Discount Knives on the Internet".

I'm not sure, but I've dealt with Brian of Discountknives.com, and he has been very good all these times, never had a problem with him.

Just my 2c

Hey everyone! Just wanted to chip in here...I am the seller Sarge was referring to in his post above. I just wanted everyone to know that the knife Sarge is buying is HIS until he tells me otherwise. I'm not going to sell it to someone else because Sarge's money order got lost in the mail, and I have to wait an addition however-many weeks. Sarge is a great guy, and I HIGHLY recommend doing business with him.

This is the first problem I have had with the Post Office, in about a year of doing buying and selling things online. No packages or payments have been lost, and delivery times have been very reasonable.

Smoky's experience pretty well parallels my frustrations from trying to order from them last fall... numerous emails, confirmation that knife had been mailed... then a mysterious reimbursement over a month later to my VISA for the full amount, but never an explanation why the knife was never sent, despite their pledges on customer service. I wasn't angry, just a bit frustrated (they did return my payment, after all). Maybe they needed some management assistance or advice. Too bad, because I had purchased a few knives from KnifeCenter before without any problem, they have a good selection and fair prices.

Bill,

I have an order with Discountknives.com for a knife that is discontinued at many of the other sites, but not listed as such on the pricelist there. The order is only a week old, so I'm not worried. But, I didn't get an e-mail confirmation of the order. The order entry screen accepted the order, and said to expect delivery in 7-10 days unless notified by e-mail. I haven't heard anything, so I should recieve the order sometime this week. I won't be upset if it is out of stock, since it is an "iffy" item, at best. But, should I have recieved some type of e-mail order confirmation?

Dave

About a year and a half ago I had a couple of orders go AWOL with Brian. One was a knife I was told was in stock and after waiting almost three weeks, I finally got through and was told it was still backordered. Huh? If there was a mistake in inventory, I should have been contacted and told that there was a mistake instead of being left kno knowing a thing. As it was, I was left hanging, not knowing what the heck happened. I chalked that one up to experience.

The second time, I was told something was shipped, I waited, sent a couple of e-mails, finally received word that it was being looked into. I waited. A couple more e-mails, and I get a response essentially asking what it was that I ordered. I sent a reminder, and a couple more e-mails later, find that the order was lost weeks previously. I then started shopping elsewhere.

Many people get alot of excellent service and shipping from Brian, and that's great. More and more recently, when the subject of Discount Knives comes up, there is a smaller percentage of complaints and a higher percentage of kudos. This shows me that Brian is getting better, but things still slip through the cracks from time to time. This can be expected when, IIRC, this is his part-time business, and he devotes a greater amount of his attention to his "real" life. It simply shows that his system may require some fine-tuning until he can make everybody as happy as he can. That's all.

I feel the lure of his low prices sometimes, and I may give him a try again in the future, but I'm currently happy with the service and pricing that I've received elsewhere. That's my prerogative, as it's each of our's prerogative to shop where we have received good service and prices in the past.

Thus spoke Zarathustra. (Yeah, right.

Smoky- maybe you could chime in here and clarify for us which dealer you are referring to?
Thanks.

I also find it hard to believe Smoky is talking about Brian at Discount Knives. I've NEVER had a problem w/ Discount Knives.
I suggest to always email Brian first to be sure he has what you want to order in stock, PRIOR to placing the order. He has always sold me knives at GREAT prices, and he is the least expensive when it comes to shipping charges, too.

Hi Dave,
I can't remember an order where I did not get an email confirmation from Brian.
I would just email him and request a status on your order. Bet you have a response in 24 hours.
Later, Bill

Bill,

It sounds like I messed up somewhere in the order entry process. It's just like me to be waiting for an order that I never placed! I e-mailed Brian to find out. (I really don't want to take up too much of his time with this). I'll let you know what we find out.

Thanks,

Dave

I just heard from Brian. I was supposed to have received an e-mail that the knife was discontinued and no longer available. No biggie. These things happen. In retrospect, I really should have e-mailed him to check availability of an item like that. Anyway, I'm sure he has plenty of other knives that need a good home.
