The Fallkniven F1 I order last week from Brian at Discount Knives came today as was promised. The transaction was smooth, with emails going back and forth each step of the way, from my query to Brian about whether it was in stock, to a shipping date. The box it came in (not the postal shipping box, but the F1 box) had printed on it that the sheath was a top grain leather one and I had ordered a kydex sheath, so I was a little worried when I opened it up. But the Kydex one was inside. Not a problem there. Then I slipped the cardboard cover from the blade and saw it was Teflon-coated black. I had ordered the uncoated version, the FN-1K rather than the FN-2K which came. These are the model numbers according to the Discount Knife Fallkniven site, so I thought it would be clear when I used these numbers to place my order. I did not specify in words that I wanted the uncoated version, however I did make it clear that I wanted the FN-1K in all my email, and Brian emailed me back that the FN-1K was the one he would be shipping out. There is a matter of a few bucks in my favor, but I have the wrong version. So I have emailed Brian again, asking him how we should deal with this. BTW, enclosed with the knife was a sheet of paper from Discount Knives, thanking me for my order, saying that my business is very important and that Brian wants to make sure I am completely satisfied, if I have any questions or find anything wrong with this order, the note said to please call or email him immediately. I did that. What would be the right step for him to take?

The proper thing to do would have been to deal with Brian first, THEN if nothing came of it, post here...

I am getting fond of the black Teflon coated one afterall. A bird in the hand...

V44,
You asked for input, and OWL, having been on these forums a bit longer than you, gave you a constructive answer that speaks collectively for those of us who have been here awhile and know the protocol of posting on these forums. He is correct, you should have dealt with it off-line and posted the outcome after the fact, either good or bad, if you desired. It is pretty simple...if you like the knife, keep it; if you don't, send it back.

If you want to be an as*hole, you are going to get treated like one. Lighten up.

Bob

Yes, very fond. I plan to engage the brain next time before the mouth.

Whoa! Can we chill out a little here?

IMHO posting an experience here doesn't imply you think it was a nightmarish horror; I would like to see middlin' experiences posted here as well as idyllic perfect transactions and the stuff of which horror movies are made of. On the other hand, is an ordinary middlin' experience interesting enough to deserve live blow-by-blow coverage as it develops?

There's nothing wrong with posting the facts of a transaction, whether the facts are wonderful, horrible, or middlin' -- that's what this forum is for -- but on the other hand, if we report every step of every deal everybody will get bored and quit reading this forum. How many posts does a transaction deserve? This sounds like one of those that could be covered quite adequately with one post -- after it's all over you could post something like "He sent me the coated version by mistake, I sent it back and the right one arrived in the mail X days later."

Can we all just stick to the facts and leave it to readers to form their own opinions? Anatomical observations are off-topic here....

This post is not merely the author's opinions; it is the trrrrrruth. This post is intended to cause dissension and unrest and upset people, and ultimately drive them mad. Please do not misinterpret my intentions in posting this.

To answer your question the only step to take for your satisfaction is for Brian to ask you to ship the knife back and shipping you the correct version.Since this was a mistake on his end if you are correct about the model numbers, then he should take care of shipping on both ends.Should be simple enough and make everyone happy.

Act III, Scene II: Brian emailed me today saying he would send the correct knife along with a postage paid return label. Couldn't have been simplier or fairer. Close curtain. Applause.
