Price aside, is there any reason not to go larger on this sharpener? Anyone have both sizes?

Plate will be used for fixed and folder blades to 4.5 inches and kitchen knives to around 10 inches.

Also just to confirm, the Dia Sharps are the silver stones with diamonds and the Duo Sharps are the plates with the holes, correct?

Some models (Duo Sharp Plus?) show the the Duo Sharp with the end not fabricated for a sharpening surface. What purpose does this serve?

Thanks, any help would be appreciated! :)

I prefer longer sharpeners so you may sharpen entire blade with one long move. I think wider plates better for chisels, but for knife blades length is prefferable. I had D8 (8"x3") but switched to D11 (11.5"x2.5") - price is same.

Thanks, Vassili.

Take a piece of wood and mark off the different sizes on it. Now do your sharpening stroke on it and see for yourself what size works best for how and what you sharpen. The 3x8 is more than enough for me.

Great idea db, thanks.

Vassili, your input is always appreciated!

The larger the better, IMO...

I seem to run out of room on my largest stones with blades over 4"...
