I have both. I have some Titanium ultra light Flat ground knives that are so slim and light weight I hardly know they are there. I like them...

But I gotta say for a pocket carry as a personal preference I like something a bit heavy in the pocket. I guess because then I can feel the knife is there and I dont have to keep patting the pocket to see if its still there...( which it always is...man am I neurotic:D) but there is something about a big ol heavy slab of steel...

What do you guys prefer..

I have both as well. For the most part, I like a knife with some heft to it. I also like to feel it there in my pocket, so I don't have to keep feeling the pocket to see if it is there still. Now, when it comes to my summer swimming knife, I like it light.

Lightweight for me. I like to forget I have the knife with me, until I need it.

I usually don't carry a ton of stuff on me at once, so the actual weight of the knife doesn't make too big of a difference to me either way. With that being said, I lean towards heavier knives, because lighter knives are usually thinner and less contoured and don't feel as good in the hand as a result.

I use a rotation of knives for my work at the boatyard. My VERY fave, I daresay, is a production knife that is one of the biggest and bulkiest: Benchmade large Blackwood-designed Skirmish. I also carry a small fixed blade by Jens Anso. Much smaller.

Sunday go to meetin'.... Light.

So... both.

I guess I like a heavy feeling folder. They feel more sturdy and dependable (though it makes no difference in reality). It has nothing to do with being in my pocket because when clipped on, I cant really feel it anyway. I also check constantly when I have something free floating in my pockets.

I voted for light, as at work I have alot of things in my pockets and a lighter knife helps out.

Going to vote for heavy Ren, I like the feel of that big ole piece of steel hanging out of my pocket!

I usually carry a "light" innocuous folder to avoid scaring sheeple and a "heavy" larger folder for rough tasks.

One of my favorite EDC's is the Benchmade 530; one of the lightest knives around.

But I also carry an Endura fully serrated - which I think is "medium" weight. ;)

4 ounces or so is about the max for me, and I like the knife to be slim as well.

I'd say I'm somewhere in between. I like tough knives (usually on the heavy side) but I like them to be fairly inobtrusive when I carry. They also need high grinds because I have little patience for EDC knives that perform poorly at deep cutting. So far some of the knives that meet that criteria are the Spyderco (Para) Military, Sebenza, and Dozier's smaller fixed blades, like the K7.

Depends on what I'm wearing. At work, I'm generally in a suit or slacks, dress shirt, and tie. Small knife fits the bill. Away from work, I bounce between large, medium, and small knives.

Heavy.

Nothing so heavy that it feels like an anvil but something substantial. Even when I carry slippies I prefer big stockmans and such.

"He ain't heavy, he's my knife" The heaviest knife I've ever carried in my pocket was an Ontario Retribution 1 that I had set up with a pocket clip, and had sanded the handles flat. Was still heavy at 10+ ounces, and only reason I quit carrying it was that my cousin saw it and made me an offer I could not refuse. I regularly carry a Strider AR with no problems.

Even titanium makes your pants sag unless you have hips like a woman. I like plastic scales and only moderate blade weight.

OK, I admit I wear suspenders so that I can carry some knife weight, but a heavy knife spoils the drape of my threads, man.

I am usually in jeans or bib overalls so I carry a Schatt & Morgan, small Sebenza, or Queen in my front pocket and a Strider or Emerson in my back pocket. Each serves a purpose...

Light. I carry an old William Henry liner lock that weighs just under 1.5 oz. with 3.25 inch blade while jogging. It's a model that came along when WH first started using carbon fiber. Once I tried running a few miles with my Blade Tech liner lock, which weighs 4.3 oz. The next day I had little bruises on my leg from the knife banging back and forth.

Even for EDC, pockets are stuffed these days (cell phones, etc), so light makes sense. Once I asked Tim Wegner about the difference in strength between the G-10 handles and his optional CF handles. Makes zero difference, he said. If the knife breaks, it's going to be a snapped tip, not snapped handles. So overly beefy handles are a waste.
