Hello
I am planning on buying a rescue 79mm and was wondering what people who had them think of the knife, by the way its my first spydie.. I planned on useing it as a EDC because of its friendly looking nature and it won't spark any negative attention in public.. Any comments or advice will help thx...

Excellent knife, especially for the ladies and for those (like me) with relatively small hands. I can get a full four grip on it without using the choil, but think those with larger hands might not be able to do that. Pluses are top quality steel, light weight, large thumb hole for ease of opening with cold, wet, or gloved hands, and non-threatening appearance. My only "gripe" is that I wish they made a plain edged version, but as long as you like or need serrations, it's an excellent choice.

I own and carry one every day. It rides IWB. It is my designated emergency blade, and has yet to see use. I like it for its smaller size to fit where I wear it, and it's ergonomics. Even though my hands don't normally do well with small knives, the Rescue 79mm feels comfortable in my grip. However, I didn't buy mine for everyday use, but for a specific purpose.

Thank you guys for your advice and comments.. anyway I would like to say to The Deacon, I visited your website and I like it alot you have a beatiful collection of spydercos.

Fantastic EDC piece. My boss carried one for well over a year and a half and this is a guy that usually gets three months out of an EDC knife before he finds something "neater". He gave it up for a Superknife (the kind you put contractor's blades in) but that's only because it was "newer". That little orange Rescue 79 holds the record for sheer pocket time. In fact, he started off with a Rescue Junior and broke the blade clean off at the hole and replaced it with the 79. (This dude thinks a pocketknife is everything from a saw to a sledge hammer).

Every time I would attempt to sharpen it for him, it took a long time on the Sharpmaker. I would have to run it down the gray stones because he'd blunted the edge so badly. I usually don't like to take serrated blades down the gray stones at all (it's not recommended in the video) but I quickly found out that my boss's knife was used to cut cinderblocks and the white stones just wouldn't do the trick by themselves. He had the clip bolt back off and lost both it and the clip. Luckily he still had his broken junior model to rob parts from and was back up and running in no time. I look for him to go back to this EDC as soon as the "new" wears off his Superknife. That would also be a first for him as he's never went back to a previous EDC knife. It will be interesting to see what happens.

See if you can find a VG-10 Rescue Junior instead of a Rescue 79mm. The hollow ground blade is much better than the flat/saber grind on the 79. More graceful looking blade profile too. This of course is my opinion. Cheers.

I'll confirm what the others have said about the 79mm rescue. This is a nice little knife, purpose built, but useful in a multitude of daily tasks. I have never had a non knife person flinch at the sight of the cute little orange handle tool.:D

I carried the predecessor (Rescue Jr in ATS55) every work day for about three years. I find a serrated blade to be very useful, but like the edge to be straight like the Rescue models, not curved. I like the Jr/79mm size because it is more pocketable and better balanced than the full-size model, which is a bit bulky and blade-heavy. The only reason that I no longer carry one is that a Ladybug II suffices for me now. Same concept in a much smaller package.

It is a wonderful, very ergonomic design. I love the looks of it too(strange enough), but we really need a PE model available. I'm hoping that maybe we will get a chance with the Salt series to get a "Mini Atlantic" since the Salt's offer both edge styles. It would be a hoot to get one of these and Wharncliffe it out(I know you're with me on this one Deacon;).

Come on Sal, please:) :) :) :)
(figured extra smilies might do the trick....:D )

I am not sure about how it would be for an EDC but I do have an orange one in my BOB.
I would love to see one with a drop point blade.

I agree with you 110% Axlis;)

And if extra smilies don't work:

PLEASE SAL, MAKE A RESCUE 79 MM IN H1 FOR US!!!

Indeed, the Salts are quite big, but often in wet situations you really want something that can fill your hand.
