I have heard that CRKT is discontinuing this knife. A local sporting goods store has them on sale for less than $20, which sounds like a great price. I assume that the one that is on sale has a Zytel handle. I would appreciate any feedback that anyone has on this knife. Thanks.:)

You'd be hard-pressed to find a better bargain than what the Mirage is sellig for these days. Check out e-bay, and you might find the alum. handled Gray Ghost done in AUS-8 for about the same $ your store is offering the FRN model in AUS-6.

I'd jump on it. If you can find the Gray Ghost, I'd jump even faster. These are really nice, well made knives for the money.:)

You should jump on it! I've got several and really like them. I'm assuming it is the small version. The large are nice but a little big for comfortable EDC but I keep one in my glove compartment.

I agree. I have two of the Zytel handled ones (one a gift). They set a new standard for low-cost production folders when they came out, just as Spyderco did before them with the Zytel handled Delica and Endura. It would be a shame if CRKT dropped them altogether from their line up, but if that's the way its going to be, you might as well have one in your collection...

I used to own a CRKT Mirage, the titanium frame lock model. I was very happy with it, it was just too small for me, sub 3 inch blade.

A friend owns one of the larger, like 3.5" blade or so versions, with Zytel handles... and I really liked it as well, altho I only handled it.

$20 bucks, sounds like a great price on a good little knife. I'd go for it.

I have a passel of them. I have large and small, serrated and plain edge. Love them. IMHO the mirage is just about the best low cost muti purpose poscket knife ever made.

I have the Wharncliffe version and I really like it. It came super sharp and a great deal for the cash

I have 3. They have been disc. since '01, at least. SMKW was selling them for 9.99. Get it if you like it.

When Smokey Mountain was selling them for $10 bucks I ordered a bunch for all those guys at work who ask "Can you get me a good knife cheap"? Well I ended up placing 2 more orders.Hell I was happy when I got mine for $25 at a gunshow a few months earlier.

I wish I had bought a dozen or so more,I still get guys asking me for them and that was a GREAT deal.

I've purchased 7 or 8. . .got them cheap ! :D

Make nice stocking stuffers and bithday presents.

I only have one left. . . :( It's in the center console of my truck.

A coworker came up with a large one that had the Grey Ghost blade with a Zytel handle. Was this always available or some parts they used up at the end?

It was apparently made from leftover parts because I got a small one the same way just before it was announced that they were no longer being produced and checked their website while they still had information for the Mirage still up. It didn't mention anything about the zytel version being available with a AUS8 blade.

Good little knife. In fact, it was the one I chose about 3 years ago as my first "knife nut" purchase. It was the knife that started it all and I saw Jim Hammond at Blade Show 2001 and told him so. I got the one with aluminum scales and it's held up beautifully. There is a review at Bladeforums, maybe by Dexter Ewing. Do a search and you'll find some good writing about the knife.

I picked up the Mirage over the weekend for $15. I couldn't believe the price. I am very impressed with the knife. It opens smoothly and rides comfortably in the pocket. I also like the spear point blade shape and the steel liners. Thanks for all the encouragement. This is a very good knife.

Thanks, Keith, I never looked at their website back then. That's good info to tell my buddy. Welcome to the forums.

I carried the wharnie for about a year. Great little knife, super pizza cutter ;)
Used it a bunch for cutting envelopes and boxes @ work. Never sharpened it, but stropped it alot on the side of a 40" carton.
It doesn't shave, but still cuts cardboard good...
I put it on the night table when I got my Dozier Personal Utility :D
