Does anyone shave (their face) with a knife?

That is, other than a straight-razor. I know John Juranitch (of Razor Edge Systems) does sharpening/shaving demos at various places/events in which he, using a double-bitted axe, sharpens the axe, lathers his face, and proceeds to shave (quite closely, I might add). Sometimes his teenage daughters come along and sharpen their skinning knives, lather his face, and shave him baby-butt smooth. Makes me wonder if anyone (other than Crocodile Dundee) actually shaves (on a daily basis) with a knife, and what kind might be best? I also wonder if anyone tried to make a lockblade straight-razor?

Thanks very much!

I've shaved with my drop point Spyderco Moran & the Calypso Jr.

Both pulled less than my straight razor.
I don't use the razor everyday. Just did it to see which one was sharper.

Took some whiskers that I missed off with a Schrade 104OT Minuteman once. I prefer my Mach 3.:o

:D

I tried it once on a dare years ago with a SAK. I did an OK job without any nicks or cuts but the stubble itched like crazy the next day. Prolly wouldn't try it again.

You can take many good knives and sharpen them like a razor, with a thin, clean edge. Not a toothy edge, not a thick, "working" edge. So after you shave, that edge will still be too delicate for most of what else you may have gotten the knife for. What's the point?

There is a razor blade shape on some old (and especially on some cheap) slipjoints. I don't know if anyone shaved regularly with them.

I don't do it daily, but I frequently shave with knives as a test of the grain structure of the steel. The most comfortable blades are usually hollow ground and made out of what I consider a razor blade qualitiy alloy. These include simple carbon steels, AUS-8, AUD-10, 12C27, and VG10. When I do this I put a very thin and smooth edge on the blades (not my utility edge). For most of my purposes this edge is sufficiently durable, but I like a slightly rougher finish on my utility edges. After the test I may lightly stroke the edges on medium grit Sharpmaker rods to give the edge a little more bite when used for slicing.

Hmmmmm.... haven't done my face... But I did shave my chest in the ER once, and again in the Dr's office to have a heart monitor hooked up...

Used my William Henry T-12.... came off faster than any razor but a straight razor!!!

I hear ya. I'm 19, can barely get my sideburns lower than the arms of my glasses. It's just genetics, I guess...even my dad can't grow much more than a dark shadow, no matter how long he leaves it.

So to answer the question, no, I haven't shaved with a knife. :)

You guys are lucky. I'm 22, and if I don't shave everyday, I can use the stubble to sand wood. It takes me a little less than a week to grow out a goatee, and a little over a week to get the full beard.

As far as shaving with my knives, I've never shaved my whole face with one, but have used my Spyderco Delica to get any stray hairs that I missed.

I was at a practice party at the dance studio this past Friday. Dancing with my girlfriend, she noticed I had missed a line near my ear.

I stepped into the bathroom, pulled out the Endura, and shaved off the offending hairs.

She's stopped asking why I carry a knife everywhere we go.

I've used my Leatherman Micra for touchups, but I'm not going to try my whole face with it!
