Last I heard, the number of people dead due to the earthquake/tidal wave was 120,000. Many people are homeless and lack basic necessities. :(

International aid is around 500 million right now, but the estimated amount of aid needed is 5 billion dollars. I am proud of the United States' and Canada's contribution but it is still not enough.

If you want to help the Red Cross out or any other organizations (e.g. UNICEF, Oxfam), please do.

If you want to donate specifically towards the asian earthquake/tidal wave, you can select that through the Canadian Red Cross here:

Instead of buying a new knife, I used that money to help the Red Cross provide food, shelter, first aid, etc. to the victims of this tragedy.

My heart goes out to everyone affected by this disaster.

Justin, very good! I trust the Red Cross and they are really raising the dollars and any one who can donate money, time, and supplies is so much help. The local mission I donate clothes and shoes to has 3 tractor trailor trucks filling up in this small community, elsewhere area churches are collecting too. If anyone can dig into their closets or funds please help if you can. The news says to be weary of some no gooders who are asking for money so the Red Cross is probably the best "ease your mind" where the money is going organization. Cindy

I sure would like to see a public comparison between donations to the Tsunami victims by the USA and Muslim countries, since most of the victims were muslims or living in countries dominated by muslims.
My guess is that they will do more b*tching than giving

Sorry mate but I think that kind of sniping is best left to the anti-Muslim fanatics in the Political Forum.

I'll just make my donations and not look at who is contributing the most....

I wish the Useless Nations would adopt your viewpoint and take a pass on the politicizing of this tradgedy, and stop the America bashing opportunity to get down to business.

Here's another worthwhile nonprofit that is helping the disaster victims.

I can personally attest to their proper use of the donations they receive. :)

No matter who you donate to -- thank you!

To Roger Gregory- I'm not sniping. But I do think that the USA has been taking alot of criticism from the rest of the world, especially the muslim world for the spread of US influence and US "cultural Imperialism." So I would like the rest of the world, especially the "muslim world" put their money where their mouths are, and pony up the kind of support that the US does for their fellow muslims.
Also-my Goddaughter, Godson and Great Godson are muslims, so I'll keep my own council as to what qualifies as a legitimate political question and what is muslim-bashing, thank you very much.

Anyone in the UK can make a donation to the Disasters Emergency Committee which is run by the major aid agencies. http://www.dec.org.uk/

This allows taxpayers to contribute using Gift Aid which means that the aid agencies can claim from the UK government the tax already paid by the taxpayer. An extra 28% is nice :)

I am sure the same applies to contributions made directly to many of the individual agencies.
