Got back from a really large gun show this last weekend, and saw a new Boker small soddie. Same size as their old soddie, but a different knife.
Yellow handled, made from 440C (stamped on the blade) and it has something else etched on the blade as well. "China". The dealer said they were going to start making them there, and that we wouldn't be seeing the Argentinian models that much longer.
Now I know Boker is an international trading conglomerate that sells knives as a small part of their company and they view their knives as simple commodity items. So they can and will be manufactured wherever they feel makes the most sense.
So the questions: has anyone else heard of this? If so, will the Chinese Soddie Jr. knives be 440C? Will we have two Boker Soddie Jr. knives, one in carbon and one in stainless? Was this guy pulling my leg? The knife was marked $20, and the fit and finish was about what you would expect for a work knife. I would say just a bit better finished than the Case small soddie, so pretty good, really.
Anyone?
Robert
