I went ahead and took a chance on a fleabay knife, paid off. I got someone's old EDC that cleaned up nice. It's a Third Version 112, with the Segua inlays. Around 1986 someone must have sent it back to Buck for a blade repair. The blade that was installed was a double struck tang stamp, one of the 4 dot blades that got the 1986 stamp over it.

Knice knife Scott!!

Double rare indeed! Sometimes fleabay does pay off! Cleaned up VERY well too!

Scott, help out a new kid here. Do you mean at one time Buck had old blades and when they did a replace they would stamp over the old markings?

Very nice EDC find. I'm partial to the 112's anyways.

There was just a time when Buck had been using the 4 dot tang stamp blades on 110s and 112s in the early 1980s. In 1986 Buck started using different stampings on the tang to denote each year of production. There just happened to be a lot of 4 dot blades still around in 1986, so some got the 1986 stamp. I'm sure some went on newly produced knives, but mine is a reblade on an older frame.

Thanks for the info. I was thinking that's what you ment. Always willing to learn something.
Glade this time the ol' 2x4 wasn't needed to drive it home.

Scott (or is it Jim??? Seems like everybody is Scott these days...) - what are Segua inlays???

(I know - the Google Search button is right there; just a bit out of my reach, but if I wanted to I could just reach out and...uhhh...bah! too much effort!) :D

It's a type of wood Buck only used for a very short time on the Third Version 112s, and as far as I know, it was only used on the 112s
