As of recently, I have an urge to buy a quality double sided axe. It started when I saw a picture of a beautiful double sided axe here on bladeforums (I asked in the axe forum and have not found the picture since) It was a custom maker in Canada and had a maple leaf on it. Anyway, I was wondering if someone could recommend me a good double sided axe? and what are the usual specs for this type of axe?

Thanks,

Alex

A true double bit felling axe, or a hatchet (nessmuk)? Snow and Nealley make a fine double bit 36" axe with a hickory wood handle if that's what you are looking for, though I prefer synthetic handles myself.

Everytime I see those Lee Reeves I drool, especially the ones with the curly maple, which just begs for a damascus bit. I'm more practical so would probably go with the osage orange for toughness, but regardless these are still way out of my price range.

I've been looking for an inexpensive double bit lately and the only really inexpensive ones I've found are the Marbles, which may be of questionable quality. I thought Ragweed Forge offered one, but I'm not seeing it on Ragnar's site right now.

I am looking for a true double bit felling axe brandon. I have seen the nessmuk and it looks cool, but there is just something about the full axe that has me haha.

Hit some of those garage sale/fleamarkets and rescue/re-furbish an old American axe. I picked up an old Collins d.b. for 3$. After cleaning, polishing, sharpening and rehafting I was offered 80$ for it. It,s my favorite but there are a bunch of brands out there.--KV

My dad dug one up from the garden years back, I was looking for it in his shed on the weekend but couldn't find it and he was golfing, so I have to ask him where it went. It looks like a mid size head, about two pounds or so. It would be sweet to clean it up and find a handle for it.
