I do not post here much, you will generally find me in Whine and Cheese and the other forum. However, I get like a kid at Christmas time for opening day of Dove season. I head just north of Niland east of the Salton Sea. My dog Gracie and I have a great time. I got her rattlesnake immunization last week, and we are going to have some fun. It is a 4 hr. drive, but way worth it. I only get to see my buddy once or twice a year now, but always worth it. We fling insults at each other as we shoot at birds. I promise to post some pics once I get some time. Hope others will post here after they get back from the hunt. Stay safe, and have a blast.

My hunting buddies are up North in Gridley for the dove shoot tomorrow. If they take some pictures, I'll post them up. I cut my teeth hunting doves in the central valley and really miss it. Hard to get away for it especially with two deer seasons near me going on every September.

Nine birds. Gracie was really hot and winded. I wanted to get #10, but I guess I can blame it on the dog. LOL. Actually, I missed some really easy shots, I cannot blame the dog for that. She worked hard, but chased too many low flyers. She is untrained, but amazing to watch her run towards shotgun fire and then look up for the birds to fall.

This trip really lifted my spirits. I have fond memories of dove hunting with my dad. Next year, my boys will go with me. I told them they need at least a 3.0 to let them ditch a day of school to hunt.

Looks like you did good. Our Georgia dove season starts Saturday and I'll be out to shoot some.

Got the report from my hunting partner on the way back. 5 guys, 5 limits north of Yuba City. Stinkin' hot and really poor evening shoot. But smokin' in the morning.

The morning shoot is always the best. I really wanted 10, but oh well. I really did miss some shots that should have been kills. I purchased a long sleeve camo that kept the desert sun off me, and I was managing the heat extremely well, but it was not as hot as previous years either.

Hindsight, I wish I would have taken some pictures of Gracie working the field. As you know, as soon as you have to reload, or do something other than be ready to shoot, birds fly by. Have a great time!

ours opens tomorrow but i have to go to the beach to check on the cottage post Irene. gots work to do there i am sure. i will be doing some carolina rigging for flounder though.. monday evening ill be back home. i will then go hunting for doves down at the pond.

notice #8 shot went up again?

chris, I've hunted with my dad and few friends in Niland for the past several years. It's been way to crowded and the hunting has been on the decline for years. This year we went just outside of Holtville and the hunting was great. I limited by 8 am and my dad shortly thereafter. There were surprisingly few people and had we several dozen fly over us while we were cleaning our birds. All in all a very good day.

Good looking dog by the way.
