I kind of have my heart set on a K-4 Straight Hunter but I don't want to wait for 4 months or even 1 month right now. I found one in red but not sure I like the red. Is there any other knife that could be had right away that is similiar?

Main uses will be all around utility. From whittling to cutting rope, ect. Just general carry as I live in the country.

I like quality and I have large hands. I'm 6'5" and 270lbs. I kind of like the Owyhee but am affraid that the handle might be a little too slim and the blade a little too fat to slice fruit and veggies.

Give me some ideas fellas.....please!:)

Thanks,

Dave

When I was at the Little Rock show in February, I noticed a man in the back of the room(after I was already broke, of course) that had a table full of knives that looked like Dozier knives, only these knives had a finer finish. Turns out that this man worked for Bob Dozier in the shop for several years. No wonder the knives looked familiar. Picture one of the Dozier knives, only with a buffed 220 grit finish, instead of the plain 120 grit that they normally come with. I cannot, for the life of me, remember this man's name, but I do have one of his cards somewhere. I am pretty sure he can fix you up. Same D2; it's even heat treated by Bob. Even has a Dozier made kydex sheath. I believe his last name was Kein, but I'll have to find the card to know for sure.

Wow! Wouldn't that be special! Yes, please try to find that card and let me know.

I love the knives and being alittle finer finished would be even better. I just really don't want to wait so long mainly because it's summer time.;)

Thanks,

Dave

It's worth giving Bob a call, and seeing what he has in stock. I placed an order last year before a knife show, and it turned out that he had a bunch of goodies stockpiled for the show. I had my knife within a week.

Of couse..... Linda played to my weaknesses and got me to buy one of the stag K-4s. :D

And yes. I look for every opportunity to post that picture. :)

Buzzbait,

That's a very nice looking K-4! I'd be posting it too. I have talked to Linda but have not spoke with Bob. Seems that he is busy getting ready for the Blade show. Does he mind taking calls?

Any other ideas? Anyone else know who Danbo might be refering to?

Thanks,

Dave

Your other option for finding a Dozier for sale immediately is to check with A.G. Russell. Go to their website or givethem a call. They always have some Dozier's in stock and they are exceptionally nice folks to deal with.

AJ,

Thanks, but I have already tried that. Had quite the conversation with the operator.;) I also tried Bladeart and Knifeart.

I am now reading all I can and thinking hard on a Camillus Talon. Now I'm really debating wether or not to go with Talonite. Decisions, decisions. I'm in the process of reading many old threads on this now.

Dave, pardon me mate, but I think this is one of those times
where haste can make for an un-happy owner. I own two
Dozier's finding them to be the best users by far. Dozier
knives are worth a wait. Well worth a small wait.

Consider this...........
You want a Dozier.....bad. Well, take a bit more time,
we all have more time than money, order a Dozier made
to your spec's and when it comes you will have the unsurpassed
pleasure of knowing that you have what you REALLY wanted
in the first place. All for the small price of a few more dollars and
a bit more time.

Such a deal...

Tightwad, you are probably right. I just hate to spend the summer waiting. By the time it would get here I would no longer get alot of use from it.

Do you or anybody for that matter have any comments on the Scott Cook Owyhee? Looks nice to but again I don't have the ability to hold and look at it.

Thanks,

Dave

Dave, Darn, I just wish I could speed things up for you.
ANY Bob Dozier knife is worth the wait.

So let me offer this suggestion , one that worked for me.
Buy yourself a Buck plain blade non tanto blade Nighthawk
for about $ 40-$60 bucks for this summers use then order
"Your" Dozier the way you want it. This is a no lose proposition.
There are time when I carry my small Dozier & the Nighthawk.
I think nothing of ramming the 'hawk in the dirt to root something
out or cut steel bands with it. I'd have a heart attack trying that with
my Dozier!!

The Nighthawk is an excellent tough do it all grunt knife for those
jobs the Dozier wouldn't be right for allowing you to reserve the
Dozier for the finer cutting work. Give it some thought ,mate.
Some serious thought.........

Dave,

I am also standing in line for my Dozier, which should be made in July! Yes, the Spring and Summer are knife season - my suggestion would be to get a decent fixed blade that is not expensive, like the Talonite Talon.

May I suggest the Talon in 154CM if you like that style of knife, or the BM Nimravus in M2 steel (only). The M2 will cut like the dickens and hold an edge too. Knife should run a little over $100 new, and you can beat the snot out of it. I do not, however, fancy the sheath.

Last, but maybe best suggestion. Spyderco Moran in VG10 with a convex edge and a concealex sheath. Runs about$70 or less, but is a mean slicer.

I also bought an intermediate fixed blade for this waiting period. One other thing you might consider - reserve another place in line with Linda D. for 4 months from now so that when you get the knife, the next Dozier will be just around the corner.

Thanks all, I hear ya! I just really have the itch to have a new knife.:) Sure wish I could go to the Blade show.

I too was wondering about that Talon. Will it fit a large hand? Then I also started looking at the Schrade D'Holder. Looks nice but alittle pricey.

Then I was thinking maybe Busse will come out with a perfect size smaller knife at show time. That would really be neat!

I have literally driven myself nuts lately.

I sent out a money order for a used Chris Reeve Shadow IV over a week ago and it hasn't made it to the guys home yet. Ohio to New Mexico. Now I'm really bummed. If I could get that it would tide me over and make the time go by quicker.;)

Oh well. Just wait and see I guess.

Hi Dave,

I would strongly consider what Tightwad and Geode have posted. Four months is no big deal for a knife that you want your way. At Blade this year I will be picking up a knife that has been in the works for 6 years and another that I got in line for 3 years ago.

Trust me once the wait is over - you will have forgotten about it. It does not hurt all all :D

Dave,

About the Owyhee by Scott Cook....I'm considering that knife myself. A store here carries what I think is the small version. If I had to guess I would say that it's probably too small for your hands. I'm 5'7", and it fits my hand nicely. I do tend to prefer mediium to small knives anyway. Other knives I find comfortable are the Spyderco Delica and Kershaw Onion Whirlwind, to give you examples by which to judge the sizes I'm talking about. I don't know what the large Owyhee would be like or how much larger it is than what I saw.
