Looking for a new watch, but I am completely watch dumb. I know I would like a chronograph style, stainless face and dressy black band. Price limit is about $200.

I've looked at Citizen already, and didn't find much in their current line up I liked. Are there older models still available or a different company I should look at?

Thanks!

Have you looked at the Citizen Moon Phase? I stopped wearing my Movado as I personally liked the Citizen more.

The moon phase looks nice. It's listed as $325 on Citizens website, is it available for less? I'll go search Ebay. Thanks for the recommendation.

Any other ideas?

The Moon Phase can be had for under 200.

Seiko makes a nice gun metal band and watch...I do not know the name of it offhand, but it looks great in person.

I found a moon phase under $200 on Ebay, and it just happened to be a local shop selling it. I think I'll pay them a visit to see one in person soon.

Hi TFin04-

If you're willing to sacrifice chronograph/stopwatch functionality, you could upgrade to a higher-level, three-hand watch like a used Omega or even a new old stock Fortis or Oris model with careful shopping

Blue Jays- Any model numbers or names I should look at? I don't really need the chrono features, I just like the style.

Hi TFin04-

Consider watches like an older used Omega Seamaster, a used SINN 656/756, a new old stock Fortis Flieger, or an Oris model. Here are a few examples:

Type some of those search terms into BladeForums and you'll receive tons of replies with lots of suggestions. Take your time and definitely consider the used market in order to significantly upgrade the kind of watch you can buy. People who are "in the know" about watches will believe you made an excellent choice with any of these models. Truth be told, complications like a stopwatch are used far less than people realize. Good luck with the rest of your watch search.

Did you look at the Citizen "Navihawk" (Blue angels), real snappy!!!

Alternatively, if you're planning a holiday in Turkey, many top brands can be purchased as copies for approx' $60.00.

Eg: Breitling, Mercedes, Omega etc...............

The Breitling are that good a jeweller would struggle to tell the difference and a Breitling retails on average at $6000.00.........no duff!!!

Those look great Blue Jays. I'm going to be doing some research on them now. I really like all three you posted. Tough decisions ahead...

Hi TFin04-

Glad you liked them because they are definitely "classics" among true watch fans. You're most likely to meet your pricepoint with the FORTIS model and it's one of my personal favorites and I've given them as gifts on four separate occasions. Try to find a dealer trying to sell new old stock or a lightly-used example. The anti-reflective coating on both sides of the 40mm crystal makes it completely disappear...to the point you'll think you can reach down and touch the hands! The photograph doesn't do justice to the attractive cockpit-like glow of the green markers.

Omegas and Sinns tend to command a higher price and you can always see what's out there for used and/or NOS models. In the long run, I think you'll be happier with a watch that will last for decades and you won't grow tired of the appearance like with "trendier" modern watches.
