Drill press milling?

I have a need to mill a channel 3/16" wide by 3/8" deep in aluminum and brass. I don't own a milling machine and won't for awhile. My question is can I use my drill press with an end mill and a cross vise and take light passes to do this job? I am hesitant to try because I don't want to ruin my only decent piece of equipment in my shop.

Only problem with milling on a drill press is most of em have chucks that fit onto a tapered shaft and are press fit. Therefore, any side pressure will make them pop off real easy. Been there, done that!

Always think of your fellow knife makers as partners in the search for the perfect blade, not as people trying to compete with you and your work!

Thanks for the heads up. That sounds too risky for me. I guess I'll have to sell my vintage Fender amp and strat. Haven't had time to play them since I got the knifemaking bug anyway.

Thanks for the pics Indian George. It really helps this soon to be novice knifemaker to see what shops look like.
BTW I really like the tanto with snakeskin sheath that you made.
