I'm going to have my 10" serrated wheel for my Bader recovered and I'm going with a smooth wheel. What is a good durometer to go with? Does 60 or 70 sound about right? Does anyone have any recommendation on who to use to cover it? I have one quote of $94.80 for recovering and balancing. Thanks.

My 10" is around 90, and it works well. I hope you are not sending your wheel to chicago rubber to have it done. They totally ruined one of mine, tried to cover it up, and sent it back to me out of round, side to side wobble, egg shaped arbor hole. Worst job I have ever seen. When I brought this to their attention, the response was," what do you expect us to do about it", anyway, they ended up buying me a new 10" Burr-King wheel, they didn't even want the old one back, which tells me they were in full knowledge of it's condition when they sent it back to me.
Here is one good place to have recovering done. Bader is another.

Tom,

My KMG1's are supplied with 70 duro smmoth wheels. My opinion it that 70 is the best place to be to get the max quality in belt life, finishing, and cutting speed.

Contact Rubber is my primary wheel supplier and they 've covered many of my blank hubs ...all perfect! $90- 100 is appropriate for stripping, covering, grinding...and balancing.

Good luck,
Rob

Thanks for the info guys!!
I was stupid enough to follow some advice posted here in shop talk and I rounded the edges of my 10" contact wheel. What a load of bs that turned out to be. I need to get it recovered and leave it with sharp edges.
Thanks for the link Mike!

I think hard is better...........and L6, why dont you like the edges rounded........just a tad and you have to make sure they are even.
I dont think I know one knifemaker that doesnt do this to their wheel. there might be a few, but not very many. You can stick it in a lathe and turn it down a quarter of an inch to get it back flat and start over.

I have a serrated one that is 70 duro and I just got a smooth one from Rob at 55 duro for finishing and you should see the finish
it puts on a blade.I would not use the 55 duro for anything but finishing,Just my thought on the matter.I think serrated wheels run much cooler,I am sure you know this, that is why I have 2 wheels
one for hogging and one for smoothing.
