Hey Dwight, you out there? Any update on your tomahawk fighting video? Release date? Cost? Combo video/trainer?

I know you said "Spring '09" and it's only January, but I'm anxious here! Haha :D

Hey Guys/Gals. Yep, I'm still out here, been over terriorizing Phil Elmore on his forum some. All is well, I've sort of backed away from teaching anymore to spend some time on some art stuff I left behind before I had that period of insanity and went off to be a soldier. Right now I'm finishing up some obligations to Paladin on the staff book and the last tomahawk one. Focusing a lot on my personal training with lots of work on my old Jow Ga Kung Fu forms and some historical stuff too. I've sort stopped trying to take this stuff too seriously and make it as enjoyable as it was when I began. Health wise, the heart seems to be working good and I'm back up to speed after the hernia surgery...still some soreness when I do too many chrunchers. (Hell, you guys asked and you know how us ole guys are. Sort of like the two steers on the hill....all they do is talk about thier operations.)

Thanks for the interest in that video. Here is a run-down. You can find some information along with photos can be found on John Stanley's TAK knife site and on the Paladin Press website under Paladin Planet...just do a search and you'll find it.
Don't have an exact release date from the director yet, I know he has a lot of editing to do so I expect it will be sometime toward the summer or fall 09. That said, let me warn you, the 50 plus pages of storyboards did not get covered as I wanted too. We just ran out of time, so what you will have is a very, very basic fundamental set of basics complemented with quite a bit of history. It should be an interesting video but don't look for some 'Ultimate Tome' of martial wisdom. I give credit to a lot of people who helped me. Steve Huff, Jim Smith, Roger Nichols, Andy Keyworth, Bryan Simpers, Jeff Karako, and John Stanley all made significant contributions both from a historical and taking up some of the sparing duties that this recovering ole wolf could not handle during the filming. You'll see them all in the film, talking stuff. There is also some wild hair hawk throwing too. Not rocket science but it was fun and frustrating at the same time. Making videos are just not that easy.

For those that care, the Sword Book has done really well, thanks to everyone.

What's next....Don't know. The focus is changing and there is not as much interest in what I specifically do and changing over to more self defense and street orientation. A trend that I fully support until people start bashing all the other 'Arts'.

New books ? Pick up a copy of Marc Gedeschi's Essential Anatomy for Healing & Martial Arts. Does a really good job of comparing East & West methods. Good addition to Mike Jannish's Contemporaty Knife Targeting. I got a copy of Justin Guariglia's Shaolin Temple of Zen which is a photo essay on the monks. You can find it really cheap on Amazon.com. It has a few forums in it but it really is an 'Art' book that is fun to browze.
New Weapons. Nope. Just books this year.

Grateful New Year? You bet! All my kids are out of the combat zone.

Have a great new year guys, keep up the good work.

All My Best
Dwight

i wouldn't say there is no interest in what you are doing Dwight as there isn't much out there for historical weapons and their use. i like the fact that you are keeping an American tradition alive when you put out these books and dvds. i know i would like to see a bowie dvd from you in the future.

i'm glad the sword book is doing well for you. i'm not a sword guy by any means but i bought it because i really like the stories and your thought processes that you share in your manuals.

keep up the good work Dwight:)

Crossada: Thanks for your comments, Yes my Kendo Instructor , Master Husu Kim was one of those influencial people whose ghost always seems to be around in the form of a million stories.

Hey maybe it is not too bad being a Dinosaur.

Dwight, thanks for taking the time to reply! It's always good to hear from you on here. I, too, love how you're keeping a key part (in my mind) of American history alive with your work. I can't wait to see it!
