Hey all,
I contacted Ryan at RMJ Forge about a gift for my friend - an Eagle Talon, with some slight engrave work (his last name, and Air Force Specialty Code for Security Forces K-9). I recieved it today.
This was my first up-close look at a Talon, and Ryans work.
As I told Ryan in an email, it's awsome - absolutely awsome.
Simply holding this hawk, you know it was forged with one purpose - to maim, injure, destroy, kill, and basically f*@# up everything & anything in its path. I get the impression of the following: Tree limbs? No problem. Wooden door? Piece of cake. Spike vs Kevlar Helmet? ( ::grins:: ) Spike all the way.
The weight is hefty, but the all steel construction balances with the head nicely.
The 550 cord is wraped securely around the handle, and gives it a sturdy gripping surface.
The parkarized finish blends with the OD green cord well, and should hold up under some wear & tear, but we'll see.
The head of the hawk fits tightly in the molded scabbard, and judgeing by the Tek-Lok clip on the back, it should be no problem secureing it anywhere.
Did I mention it came RAZOR sharp? It did.
The afore-mentioned engraveing came out wonderfully, and IMO just tops off this already amazeing piece.
Worth the cash? By asthetic reasons alone, yes - if you like the spartan looks of a weapon created for war, as I do. For performance, simply holding this tool and takeing a few practice swings with it convey a feeling of ultimate power & confidence. Its amazeing.
Field tests are yet to be conducted, and Lord save us from ever having to do the ULTIMATE test for any weapon.
Bottom line: Ryan does awsome work, and the Talon is a prime example. He's also a joy to deal with, and a helluva nice guy to boot. Should I ever be down near his shop, you can gurantee I'll be offering to grab him a brew or three. The hawk ain't no joke, and I'm 110% satisified.
Oh, as for my friend...it damn near brought tears to his eyes.
