So I won a bid on the bay for a early model 121, I haven't received it yet. While waiting for the last few minutes to count down, I went to the BCCI web site to look up the year of production on the 121. The knife is the 121 fisherman with the fish scaler on the spine of the blade. I couldn't find a picture of the knife with the blade stamp that reads BUCK vertical on the blade. The examples all show the knife with the stamp horizontal accross the spine edge of the blade. I hope I have expained my question. What year did they make this knife '64-'68. I think they took the scaler off in '69.

I'l post pictures when I get the knife...

Matt,
If all is right it will be a very old one. The blade should be very thin. I think someone has shown almost every 121 photo on the forum. Do a search, maybe it was Telechronos? Someone has a very good collection of them and has shown photos....300Bucks

I believe that the first 121 was the scaler with BUCK stamped horizontal to the blade as shown at the top of the attached picture. Next came the 121 with the BUCK stamp at the base of the blade as shown in the second of the knives in the picture, which spanned 1964-1966. !967 had the BUCK* (not shown in the picture). The scaler was essentially discontinued in early 1968 with the stamp,BUCK USA, because the scaler substantially weakened the blade and when it was flexed to fillet, it had the nasty habit of breaking. The last two on the picture are 121s without a scaler,, the tip down BUCK 121 USA knife for 1972 and the Tip up BUCK 121 USA for 1973. Hopefully that answers your question.

The knife I won is the second knife in your collection. Thank you and that is an amazing collection. I hope to one day have a collection like yours, I love the 121s but not as much as the 300 series, LOL. I have three for now. I have the Kninkhammer buildout with the fish scaler, the new chip flint buffallo guide and now the 121 fish scaler '64-'66. Thank again for the info and Thanks to 300bucks for giving Telechronos the referal...
