Does anyone know the heat treating specs for the 512 layer random pattern damascus made by Edwards Steel in AL? Thanks.

Tom, it is usually what ever heattreat is recommended for the higher carbon steel in the damascus mix. I do not know what that is, could be 1085, 1050, etc. If you were not supplied that data, with the steel, I would call the supplier, or Fain Edwards himself, for the answer.

Gus Edwards, Fain's son, has been running the business for the last couple of years in the town where I live and I haven't been able to get in touch with him for a couple of months. I was told he went out of business, but I'm not sure. I've been to his place of business, but it's been closed.

Tom, I would think the same HT as most any high carbon steel, using a magnet to tell you it's ready to oil quench. It might not be optimum but should work OK.

Tom: To bad you still didn't live in Fairhaven, you could just come over the bridge and we could do it up. You always could send it up.

George, if I lived back in Fairhaven I'd take you up on that. As you know, New Bedford is one of the suburbs of Fairhaven. I can get you a pass if you ever want to visit or even a pass to Mattapoisett.
Tom
