I am considering a purchase of the basic machine, however, my confusion comes to how you go about getting your unique mark onto the stencils? I've heard that a company out there offers better stencils, but who really puts the design desired onto the stencil? I guess they cut it out? I know it probably sounds elementary to those of you using it, but, I'd like to know what I'm getting into before I spend the bucks. --thanks, Dan

Hi Dan
Dan here.;)
you can make your own design with your computer if you want
then send it to marking-methods, they will size it to what you want
They cut the stencils you get like 6 -7 for like $20.00 I think
then use your unit..

by the way I have a 2nd one I picked up ( eletro-etch) and I'm
thinking about selling it. if your interested.

Thanks for the response Dan. You might email me with your details. I'm not quite convinced this is the way i will go, but your sale might be enticing-Dan

According to what they sent to me..."Set up charge is $ 20.-, with customer supplying ready artwork."

Steve

I think your in the ball park Steve,
more $$ if you want them to do the art work.
the first time I ordered from marking methods
a lady called me she was right on top of it.
good to do biz with..

There is a machine for making your own stencils but think its easier to order them made. They put your design on via some photographic process and probably disolve the stencil etch area with chemical development instead of cutting out the design.

no I believe it's cut in.
I know of a place that did mine before,,
the guy died and his wife was selling it all, about 25,000.00
worth for about 7,000.00
the photo set up and all, this is to do the art work I believe..
I could be wrong...

The price Steve wants for his marking methods is a good deal. These do run up to a grand. They will do a very good job laying down an etch. As for stencils, create a stencil on your computer, send it to Marking Methods and they will make the stencil for you. Around 40 bucks for a few sheets and the setup artwork. After that they will keep it on file for future orders to save the setup. MM also has some stock stencils you can purchase with images, scrolls, etc. Ask for their knife makers kit. The stencils from MM will make several hundred impressions each.

You can make your own photo stencils by getting supplies from IMG
You will need to make a small light box (easy to do)
see Bob Warners site on how to make a light box and a $50 electro etch machine.
