emergency kit for medium range hikes (need for advice)

I love to take 6 to 10 hours hikes in the hilly side of my region (Liguria, Italy 600 to 800 metres on sea level). Lately I've been thinking about how lucky I've been until now, because nothing ever happened to me and I've always gone with almost nothing on me (knife, food, spare clothing, some very basic first aid kit, cell phone to call the SAR should something go wrong). Yesterday I got stuck in a two hour rainstorm and, even though nothing happened, I've seen thing from a different perspective (e.g. very slippery trail, girlfriend beginning to panic, chance of being stuck in a shelter for the whole evening / night).
To cut it short, I need the forumites advice as to what to pack for a rational and light weight first aid / survival pack for two persons.
Thanks in advance for your time,
Fausto

Fausto,

Welcome to the frums.

Might want to try:

here
or
here
or
here
or
here

or

Go to the Tactics & Training, Wilderness & Survival, then search for HIKING.

Should turn up some good threads (that's where the above came from)

Good Luck,
Mike

Good suggestions!

Might I also suggest some reading material. "Mountaineering - Freedom of the Hills" is one of my favorites. The SAS survival books are good too.

Thanks Mike, Ryan and Oni for the good suggestions! I've already saved the web pages and will start working on it soon.
Thanks again
Fausto

Hiya Fausto, Italians are a rare breed here at BF. It's good to see another one. I've never been to Liguria, though I hear that it's nice. Where do you go hiking?
