Dear Forum Members,

I have read the post “New Fighting Tomahawk Designs” by Daniel Winkler. There seems to be a lot of angst among the readers about the claims of different entitles, makers, trainers, etc. and their connections to Naval Special Warfare or the Special Operations Communities. There have been and always will be those who exploit inaccurate or even false claims about ties to those communities.

For the record I will state the following concerning Daniel Winkler. I will confirm that he is indeed making a variety of tools, not just Hawks, for the Naval Special Warfare Command. I know the group(s) and the individuals that he is working with. And for those of you who still require verifiable proof I can only add the following; there really are some entities that work on cash basis purchases and are justly concerned about minimal paper trails, speed and ease of procurement and operational security concerns about their organizations. For example, I will add that unless you are involved in the community there are very few who know how many SEAL Teams actually exist. It’s not the obvious answer. Contrary to what a lot of people believe, some things are still secret, as they should be.

In regard to Daniel Winkler; he is one of the finest men I know. He is a gentleman, a man of integrity and a man of his word. If Daniel Winkler tells me something, I know I can take it to the bank. I am honored to know him and to count him as a friend.

Anyone who does not know about Mr. Winkler in the knife world really has missed the boat. I have only heard great things about him and his work.

Ernest,

Thank you for the kind words. I am honored to have you as a friend.

By the way guy's, this is another one of those men that I trust more than all others. His level of integrity is one we can all strive for.

Its good to know just enough of the details short of need to know. I don't think anyone can blame some around here for questioning when you stop to consider how many have proven to be frauds out there and how many end up on the POWnetwork.org website as a phony and/or wannabe for some of the claims made.

I think many are just cautious now based on past experience I guess. It is nice to see someone of honor and integrity vouch for folks that unfortunately need a little help convincing those that wonder. This should put any worry to rest. Everything I've heard of Mr. Winkler has been positive so this is the first I've read of it. I may have to read the other thread now. Thanks Ernest.

Now there's a testimonial I can trust.

Not that I need to. You only need to meet Daniel Winkler and talk with him a bit to know you can trust him. I was fortunate to do that at the last Blade.

If anyone is foolish enough to question Mr. Emerson ...

I spent decades on active duty, retiring some years ago. For most of that time, I was an acquisition professional. I'll stand up for what Mr. Emerson says.

Mr. Emmerson, Thank you for taking the time to write a few words about Dan Winkler. For me his integrity was never in question but its nice to see people who know him personally step up and speak out about him as good people.

As far as his tomahawks go, outside of the two in question the only hawks I have seen of his were all classic in design and made to the highest standards as far as I know. I have never heard one complaint about any of his standards or workmanship on any knife or tool he has made.

My apologies for any misunderstandings, my contention is with Sayoc and their military claims, It is not, and never was with Dan Winkler. By all known accounts Winkler is a country boy from North Carolina who makes the finest of knives and more important than that, he is a gentleman. His words here and the way he has handled himself concerning what some would consider a personal attack are a testament of his honor. His being a outstanding representative of the ABS only adds to his already fine reputation.

Well put Sir.

Thank you for posting this - many could easily stand by and not say anything. Only a person with integrity and their eye on the true task at hand would step forward without prompting.

Respectfully,
