Endura/Delica 4 to replace Manix???

Ok, so I've had a Manix for almost a year now, and it's one hell of a knife. I thought I wanted something beefy, but after carrying it for a while, it's just too big for everyday. When I'm wearing jeans and such it's fine, but most of the week when I have to go to work and wear slacks it gets left at home. I've been using a dragonfly at work (just in my pocket as not to expose the clip), and it's worked fine, but I recently ordered a stainless Kiwi and a William Henry clip case to replace it. Ok, so now, I'm left with a Manix that I'd like to trade for something smaller. I used to own a FRN Delica which grew on me, and I'm thinking about getting another one. Now, however, I've been considering the Endura as well. There aren't any stores where they have one I can play with, but last I remember, the Endura seemed pretty big. I don't mind length so much as width (not thickness). The Delica was small enough that I would forget it was there. With the Manix, however, I can't put anything else in my front pocket because the knife takes up so much room. Now, I'd love to get a new SS 4th gen Delica, but it only has .75 more inches of blade than the Kiwi (which I consider a pretty small knife as is), and I might want something a bit bigger. So, is the Endura similar in width to the Delica? Or is it close enough in size to the Manix as to not make much of a difference? I'm also considering something like a full-size Griptilian, but I like Spyderco and would like to stick to something they make. (Preferably the Delica or Endura in ss.) Let me know what you guys think!

I don't think the Delica and the Manix have much in common other than they're both knives and they're both made by Spyderco. The Manix is a tank. The blade is thicker, the lock is tougher, IMHO, and it's wayyyy bigger. The Delica is not. The Endura seems like an oversized Delica, but it's still no Manix.

Right. That was my point. After having the Manix for a while, I realize that I don't need something that big and tough. I was thinking something like an Endura/Delica would be a nice lightweight smaller replacement. I think either of them would still be able to cut well enough, without the bulk. I was mainly wondering how much smaller (if any) the Endura was than the Manix, and how much easier it was to carry.

If you're looking for a scaled down Manix, the ParaMilitary might be worth looking at. You'll get that grippy G-10 of the Manix, as well as the finger choil. The Para is very light and thin. As long as you like the Compression look, the Para is very much worth looking at.

Why don't you get a Mini Manix or a Native I?
(I always wanted a little, but tank-like folder, and I'm sure I'll keep my MM - until I found a better one for that price. ;))

Well, I used to carry a Benchmade mini-AFCK which was super thin and had enough blade for whatever I needed. Then, I switched to a Delica which was also a very good size. I ended up giving my mini-AFCK away to my brother, and my Delica away to my girlfriend at the time. Now I only have my Manix which takes up WAY too much space in my pocket, and my Dragonfly which is too small to carry alone. So, I don't need a scaled down tank, but rather something slim, yet tough, that offers enough blade. I would love to get a new SS 4th gen Delica, but I was wondering if the Endura was a lot more knife for not much more pocket space.

I agree, the Manix takes up a lot of room in your pocket. I wear mine on the weekends and any other time I'm out in the wilderness, etc. My office EDC is a minigrip. Right now I like my combination of minigrip for the office and Manix on weekends.

Well I think you'll be happy with an Endura 4. I have had a Manix since they first came out and I got an Endura 4 straight from Spyderco a couple months before they hit the streets so I've been using it for awhile.

I don't carry the Manix that much anymore. I carry a Strider or when I have the need to go "light' I carry the Endura 4.

While the spine of the Manix is thicker near the handle, the Enduras blade is thicker near the tip, that is important to me as this is where those who break a blade seem to break it........

I carry the E4 clipped to my gym shorts while working out with no trouble at all. It is THE slim, light, easy to carry hard use knife for me.

That sounds like the perfect knife for me right now then. Hopefully between the Endura and my Kiwi, most of my needs will be met. Thanks.

I agree that the endura 4 is probably a good choice. I agree that the Manix and endura 4 are different knives. But the endura 4:

- still has the blade hole
- leaf-shaped blade
- great edge geometry (though not a full flat grind, alas)
- reasonably stiff handles (not as stiff as Manix, but this is the tradeoff you're looking for)
- much lighter and more carryable than manix

If you want a full flat grind, I'd agree w/ buzz that you look at the para

FRN endura 4, bet you'll be happy with it

I'm another advocate of the Endura 4.
I don't think that you will be disappointed with the Endura 4 because it is nearly perfect for an EDC.

It's not too bulky.
It's not too heavy.
It is slim, but it is still plenty strong for about 99% of anything expected from a folder.
And it is very affordable--one of the best deals in the knife industry IMHO.

A word of caution on the Para-Military:
If you're not familiar with the Compression-lock, you should check one out before you buy if at all possible.
Some folks love it, and some folks hate it.

I dislike the Compression-lock so much that I will not buy a knife with that lock, regardless of its other attributes.

Good luck,
Allen.

The Endura is the perfect knife in my opinion. Anything more added to that knife is just bells and whistles that makes other knives more expensive. Don't get me wrong, love bells and whistles as much as the next guy and I am willing to pay for it, but for a knife that is strictly business, the Endura is the way to go.
