Hi guys,

I'm not very familiar with Esee other than they have a reputation for excellent quality so this may seem like a stupid question to you guys but I don't have a clue; so please go easy on me if it is. :o

Over on another forum, someone posted pictures of an Esee 3 folder. It looked awesome! It was basically everything I liked about the HEST/F and then some, without all the stuff I don't.

I searched but couldn't find anymore information? Anything you guys can tell me about it would be greatly appreciated. Or if you prefer, just point me in the right direction so I can find out for myself.

Thanks in advance.

Only the prototypes were made. ESEE was supposed to work with Lion Steel to get them produced but at the last minute, Lion Steel backed out. Now ESEE is working on getting Rowen to produce the knives but it won't be for several months.

The 3F was going to be produced by Lion Steel in Italy. That is no longer happening.

Rowen will be making the 3F in the future, but it is a work in progress and they are currently working out details with Jeff. Rowen in Idaho is who makes the ESEE fixed blade knives.

It will be a folder that sets the new standard when it makes it out in my opinion.

No set date, just "in the works" at this point.

Welcome!

Thank you guys. That is great news! At least they are in the works. I had read a blurb on the Lion Steel site from someone about Lion Steel backing away from a project with Esee but I wasn't sure exactly what that was all about.

Do you guys think it will be much different from the version that Lion Steel would have produced? Are they as experienced with folders as they are with fixed blades?

Again, I apologize if this has been covered before.

Someone said Rowen had made folders in the past, but no one mentioned which name/models.

One feature that will probably not show up on the Rowen ESEE3/F (but can be seen on the prototypes) is the rotolock, Jeff said he didn't really like it and it wasn't needed.

Someone pointed that out on the other site too. Do you know if they will still have the Hinderer style frame stop? I'm not crazy about the roto block but I do like the stop.

Curious, did LionSteel back out because they are producing the DPx HEST folder and to produce the ESEE one as well might be seen as a conflict of interest? Purely speculation on my part but it would make sense. Not that I'm criticizing but it would seem that it would be an either/or type situation for them. Anyone have any ideas?

they pulled out primarily due to a miscommunication but also because they're pretty booked for the year and didn't want to do a rush job that might impact overall quality.

If you scroll down in this forum there's a locked thread like "Lion Steel will not make ESEE folder". Lots of info in there.

I'm assuming they will make it out of 440c just like the ss4, pure guess though. I don't want to state anything that might offend jeff.

I heard they scrapped the folder idea in order to divert their full attention to the upcoming throwing knives and ninja swords. :p

I hope it is D2 steel. The folder, not the sword.

Based on recent events, I'm beginning to think that is the absolute best thing that could have happened to ESEE for their company and their customers.

F that, I want the folding machete and that other crazy knife with glow in the dark orange handles with an embedded compass and firesteel in the kydex sheath.

What's that statement all about? Offend me?

The folder steel has not been worked out yet. As far as Rowen's experience with folders. You might say it is considerable. They just haven't always put their name on what they make ;)

Hi Jeff,

I saw the pics on another forum. That knife looks freakin' awesome! I hope you guys keep it pretty close to the prototype design. The blade grind looks just right to my eye. I really hope you guys get this thing out soon maybe in Elmax?

The production piece will be pretty much the same as the proto that Lion Steel built minus the RotoBlock.

What is Elmax? Excuse my ignorance.

Same steel ZT used in the 0551. I'm really liking it so far. .

Ok, ElMax is a trade name that someone has come up with but what it the steel actually?
