I don't own one yet for this purpose but have been considering it seriously for a while now. Would like info/opinions from you guys on using the ESEE 3 as a neck knife sort of a mora replacement. The role would be a super sharp slicer with a very thin edge, not for super hard use but a back up to my 6.

i dont own one of these knives either so this is just my 2 cents it might me a bit heavy for a neck knife but you could take the micarta off and paracord wrap it or you could get the smaller izula

I think it would be a little big for a neck knife. I wouldn't worry about it coming out the sheath or anything tho', my 3 fits in there snug & you really have to tug at it to get it out the sheath. It can be done but imho I think its just a little big

I basically am pitting this against the Izula 2 like in the other thread, and many guys like the 3 better. I know the 3 is a little longer than the Izula 2 but it is also thinner. I definitely want the handle scales either way since my hands are large hence seriously considering the 3 over Izula 2. I know both are great knives no doubt, but very different.

yeah, all ESEE sheaths are great at retention and would trust any of them upside down. A little big is definitely a consideration but maybe worth it for a better hand fit, I just don't know. Get them all I know, I am working on it.

I tried using the 3 as a neck knife at work once (couldn't find my izula) and it was a bit heavy and very noticable under my scrubs. It wasn't uncomfortably heavy but I could definitely feel it after a 12hr shift. Go w/ the izula.

Probably to big. Izula 2 may be a good choice if it needs to be a neck knife. Otherwise 3 is a great choice! Izula is also slightly thicker than the 3, so for a better slicer maybe choose the 3.

I guess you could sling it across your body with some paracord so that it sits somewhere under your left armpit? That might support the weight a bit better, whilst retaining easy access to it when required.

In my thread i was talking more along the lines of in a bag or on a belt (perhaps piggybacked on the sheath), not on the neck. If it was full time necking for edc i would think go with the izula 1, if it was more to be something you have when woods romping or specifically using it for camping, possibly in conjunction with the 6, i think the 3.

I've hung all my ESEEs around my neck. The 3 is more than I'd want to carry for any length of time. Moras are very lightweight due to the thin blade and poly handles.

If you're really concerned with the small handle size of the izzy or izzy 2 get yourself a 3 & use a boot cliip, scrap the neck knife idea, or you could do the neck knife anyway & let us all know how it works for you. We could give you all of our opinions but at the end of the day you're going to do what you feel

Thanks for all info guys. It would be worn for the woods only, not everyday carry. All you guys gave me some good things to think about and throwing some chat around helps a lot. The knives are all so good choosing between any of them is why so many people own all of them eventually.:D
