I was going over my notes, looking for a name for a picture I'm going to be posting soon, and I found something interesting: the origin of the word "chakmak" and "karda."
Chakmak is derived from the Nepali word for "strike" (as in to strike against a piece of flint to produce a spark). The word Karda is derived from the word "sharp."
Also interesting is that the bishwakarmas had a sort of amusing and poetic way of referring to the chakmak and karda: as the son and daughter of the khukuri!
