Ok, so I've been thinking. (Uh-oh... ;)) I am just so fascinated by and drawn to weapons. Swords, knives, guns...I love 'em all. I think, and I'm serious here, that it's just a deep, primal urge or instinct in me. That's the best way to explain it. I JUST FEEL SAFER and more at peace knowing that there's a weapon of some sort in my possesion. Whenever I'm looking at a gun, knife, sword, I just think "man, what that would do to the jerkoff who breaks into my house!" (KNOCK ON WOOD!!!) Or, I think, "If I was lost in the mountains, (or wherever) how that tool would come in handy."

Honestly, I just feel more comfortable knowing that I have tools around me that could help save mine and my family's lives. Even though, it most likely will never come to that. (KNOCK ON WOOD)

I've been trying to explain to myself why I'm so fascinated with weapons. Not trying to justify it by any means, just curious...doing some self-exploration. And that's the best I've come to. It just makes my soul happy and more at ease whenever I have one (or several:D) on or around me, or acquire a new weapon. I truly think it's my deeply primal protective instincts coming out. I am FIERCELY protective of my family/friends/girlfriends, etc.

Anyway, just some thoughts. Feel free to add your own thoughts to mine! Agree, disagree, what?

Two eyes facing forward, large brain (relative to body size), upright posture (well, most of us), and grasping hands make us predators, not prey.
Maybe we are just naturally drawn to anything that helps us achieve our design goal?

I'm not the first person to say so, but knives, swords, guns, etc. can be easily interpreted as phallic symbols.

It's not his real name, but I think he's a Manic Depressant with Bipolar Mood Swings... He's Happy, then he's Sad... He's also got multipe personality disorder. In the signature are some of his other personalities. We also live 4 blocks from Ground Zero and he was here for the entire thing... I think that Phucked him up a little bit too.

Yes, I admit it, I have a very small one...

melancholy mutt, your pictures are amazing. I wished I could take pictures like that. truly. I love dogs too, but work at a job that does not allow me to keep one. anyways, the reason I like knives is that they're edged weapons, and somewhere in me, I wish for an opportunity to use it to my (and others') benefit in a rescue / life threatening situation.

oh yeah, I always fantasized about being Conan too.....:D chop chop slash slash the BGs.....;)

You know, I understand exactly what you mean, but a lot of anti-gunners and others who are generally against self-protection and/ or self- reliance would site your comments as proving that we are primitive and immature. Then again, most of them live in a world wehre nothing bad ever happens to them, and it never will...

Personally, I've always drawn a distinction between knives as tools and firearms as weapons. I enjoy automatic knives, but look for utilitarian blades that I can use as tools. Don't get me wrong, I'd use a knife in self defense in a minute. I just choose to keep a firearm handy at all possible opportunities.

But why am I drawn to knives? First for their uses, secondly for the cool gadget factor, and third to impress the chicks.

OK, that last one isn't true...

;)

The explanation I like best after being here a year and been reading one or two threads like this one.

The weapon aspect is why I carry a knife. I hit adolesance late so I was smaller than most kids for a while. Also piss-annoying. Needless to say, I got picked on. I felt that a knife put me on even grounds with men of anysize. It's said that "God created men, Samuel Colt made them equal." Sort of the same thing there. Now I'm 6'4" so it doesn't matter as much but I still feel naked without one.

And MM, you can't post pictures of hot women without telling us who they are. It's against the rules. :)

I don't look at knives as weapons at all anymore, I barely look at guns as weapons (and only then certain kinds).
The reason for this is because I use both extensively in non-weapon roles. I love guns (particularly service automatics) and am learning to love knives (so far I merely enjoy them, but my passion for them is not yet at gun-level). I enjoy the engineering aspects and the things I learn from and through them, as well as their myriad uses. I am one who also enjoys flexing my various constitutional rights and as such am always carrying a knife, I figure if i'm carrying a knife, it might as well be a good one - but I also like variety! So there I go again... I suppose having at least ONE gun and ONE knife grants me some feeling of security, but really they are mostly fascinating, enjoyable tools to me, and little else.

is an ex-friend.

She's a dominatrix in Toronto, one hell of a pothead and the best fellatrix I'd ever met.

I think it's a primal urge too.

I have always been interested in weapons.

Guess I'll just have to live with it :D

While I rarely consider the weapons aspect, it's amazing how they always seem to fit that role very well.

There are few other macho objects other than pocket knives, that an average guy can afford to buy some of the "best" of. :)
