Ever just put up with something, tolerate the pain, ignore the discomfort, etc....only to find out it turns out all this time you have a medical issue needing attention?

Yeah....that's me.

...and my feet.

My feet are over-pronated - the left worse than the right. I've just kind of ignored it for years...even knowing that my father had to have surgery to correct his flat feet when he was 12.

Well...took my son to the Dr. the other day only to find out his feet are seriously over-pronated as well. Not bad enough for surgery....yet. But now he has some cool, but uncomfortable, custom orthotic inserts.

So, after having talked with the Drs. involved and starting to think about it...(duh!)....I start looking at my own feet. :foot:

I'm not ready for custom orthotics.......but I've gone ahead and picked up some off-the-shelf stuff...and it seems to be helping.

Of course....losing 20 lbs would probably do more to help...:D  :p

Anyway....not a complaint thread...don't need nuthin....just wondering if any of you have had similar "DUH" moments like this one.

:o

Yep....wondering why it was uncomfortable to twist to look over my shoulder when backing up the car....realized I had put on some weight over this winter and I was "thicker" than before!!

Yeah, me and my two herniated disks.....
Suffered like an idiot for maybe 6 months, before dealing with it properly.

Make sure you have good, supportive shoes too, especially if you're going to be standing or walking for a long time. You might also ask about leg strengthening or balance exercises that will help even things out. Someone who speciallizes in sports medicine might know more about rehab type approaches.

Good luck with the feet.

Plug for Sol heat moldable inserts. I use these in my running shoes and in my every day shoes and they are fantastic!

Well, there's the knee that got hit by a renegade tree back in '81 when I was cutting timber for a living that I've been meaning to get taken care of, but I've been in an office pretty much ever since then, so I figure my ass will need replaced before the knee gets bad enough that I'll be forced to deal with it.

Good luck getting your feet sorted out. That must be tough when your livelihood depends on being able to spend the day on your feet. Do you use one of those rubber floormats to stand on while you are working? I used one for a while when I was doing a fair bit of woodworking and I was surprised at how much of a difference it made.

yeah, I tore my ACL completely and walked around for 6 months before I did anything about it.

doc says 'How in the hell did you walk around with that much pain???"

guess I just hoped it would get better. didn't. I ended up with full reconstruction on the ACL.
Sucked!!!

Think again about those orthotics. I put off getting them too; once I got them I found out that I could walk WITHOUT pain. HOLY crap!!! And that I could walk fast again! You get used to the pain and don't realize it's there til it's gone.

Pain is a message you're sending yourself. Pay attention to it! :)

In the post office we always made a point of lecturing the new guys that letter carriers need good supportive shoes, no matter what they think they look like.

I know what you mean. I'm supposed to have surgery on my right shoulder cuz it liks to pop out of socket sometimes. My left shoulder has to much cartilage on it or something and they want to go in a scrape it off. I'm too chicken to go and do it so I deal with weird clicking from my left shoulder and ocasional horibble pain in my right.

Thanks for the reminder, orrey45....:) .....:(

I did some damage to my shoulder in 2004...never went to see a Dr....for the longest time, I couldn't lift it up past my head unless straight out in front of me. Doens't hurt any more though...so I guess it went away?!?

Also, now that I think about it....(man, I AM dumb)...I injured my thumb 2 YEARS AGO - an act that literally brought to a screeching halt any/all forging I was doing - and never got it checked out. I still don't have 100% strength back...and tend to "baby" it sometimes...preferring to use my left hand instead. But it doesn't hurt anymore. *shrug*

I guess I got more than I thought....:foot:

D'oh!

Esav - what brand/style/flavor of shoes do you recommend for "on your feet all day" work?
(keep in mind I am standing....not walking)

Random04 - how much $$$ we talkin' here?

My son's were well over $500....*cough, cough*

!!

Had carpal tunnel in my right wrist. I thought I'd just sprained it. Finally went to the quack's when it started getting worse. God knows how many injections and 8 months in a support and it's FINALLY starting to get better.
At least it cured me of my WOW addiction.

Pain and tingling constantly in my arms, diagnosed last year with CPT in both arms and nerve damage in left elbow and shoulder. I'll get surgery when I can afford to miss work.
Horrid pain in lower back. Diagnosed 2 years after initial incident with torn Lumbar.
Pain and more pain in my hips, knees and feet with serious loss of mobility. Diagnosed 3 years after it started with accelerated Psoriatic Arthritis. They keep offering Cortisone and steroids, but I am stubborn (ie. Stupid?).

they roll inward, bro. The left more than the right.

I did one of those "istep" analysis things the other day...right foot is just slight, left foot is definitely overpronated. :(

Doing some BJJ work and I felt something pop and a wierd feeling in my right shoulder. Waited many months trying to work it out with weight training.....torn rotator cuff. Still not fixed:mad:

I cracked some vertbae in my neck in a car crash and the docs didn't figure it out for six months. I never had any pain but I had a cold numb spot in my back and my last two fingers were numb. Of course it had already healed by then and it took a bunch of therapy to work things out.
