Thanks everyone ! I've never taken pictures of knives before so I'm really trying new stuff out as I go along. I really appreciate all of your input.

As for the Camp Bloods if you have missed my comments about it in the past well let me just say, "They are Awesome !''
 
I use a Canon 1D MKlll dslr and a Canon 85mm F 1.2 lens on most of my knife pics. Somtimes I use a Canon 28-70mm F 2.8 zoom or a Canon 300mm F 2.8 but the set-up is more complex so only occasionally will I go this way.
I use manual mode and adjust exposure almost constantly, especially in bright light or with the satin finished blades because they reflect so much light.

them are some awwwwwwwwwwsome blades, cannot wait to put the smackdown on one of dem, that would 5 poppin and six droppin for sho and and, i would love ridin on dem sixes...
