Good Day,

Who owns the Fallkniven F1 or sells them or has fondled one extensively, and what do you think.

Yes, I know about the Perrin review.

Specifically, how secure is the handle?

I held the S1 and found the rubber to be pretty darn slick.

Thanks in advance,

I have the A1, S1, and the F1 and have (blush) fondled them extensively. However, never with wet hands. I would hope that I would get the same secure feeling I do now. Guess I'll have to use them wet and see.

I just re-read your post and noticed you never said "wet". Well, in that case I can assure you that I have not had any problems holding on to the knives. I love the balanced feel, the weight to size ratio, and the secure feeling in the grip.

I have an F1, and I'll just say "I'm not worried about the handle" and leave it at that.

Stop when you get to bone.

I own an F1 and don't find the handle slick. The handle is thinner than most, making it rather compact. The rectangular profile prevents blade rotation. It's big enough for me and I love the blade alloy and design. I like the handle on the Buck Vanguard better (I own one of those with a buckcote blade and a Master Series with a BG-42 Blade).

I have the F1 that I won on the forums. It is a great knife in all aspects...I like it much. Only complaint I have is the sheath, I donot like it!! I don't find any problems with the handle, use it alot camping and hiking...It is a very stout knife and handles and sharpens well. I am impressed with the vg10 steel.Temper seems just right.

Since different users have different needs, there are two to choose from. (And a third, plastic, for fitting in a flight suit.)

I'll agree the one with the flap is rather bulky.

Griffon:

Do you have a pic or other info on the "flight suit" sheath. My son is a Marine Corps aviator and I'm shopping for a suitable knife for him.

The plastic sheath goes into the narrow thigh pocket. In a way the pocket is where you carry the knife and the sheath an edge and point protection insert.

Unless the USMC's suits are like ours (which I don't think they are), it wouldn't fit on/in the suit, even though the knife itself would be a good choice.

(It's not on sale, so it might very well be something the air force has special ordered from someone other than the knife manufacturer.)

I have an F1 with me here in Italy during my 3-month visit here and it is a dependable workhorse. I have been able to slice several loafs of real tough, crusty Ciabatta bread

Jumbi, quick thought on your son's knife, regarding the flight suits...

There are two types of flight suits, the old/newest type, which has a pocket on the inner (left, I think) thigh, with a snap and grommet, and a type that was produced for a while, rumored to accomodate some personal female needs. The 'female' suit was issued for about 8 years, IIRC, but has recently been replaced by the old style again. The 'female' suit doesn't have the thigh pocket, nor a few other useful pockets. But, I digress...sorry.

Anyway, the thigh pocket easily holds a knife the size of the AFCK, Axis, and Ascent series up to 830/835 (maybe even 84x series). Also might be able to get a BM 750 Pinnacle in there. I don't know that it would hold a knife as large as a fixed blade, unless that fixed blade is 5 inches or less OAL. Maybe6 inches. In either case, I would be a little hesitant to ride an ejection seat with a fixed blade there next to my femoral artery, although I carried the 830 Ascent there regularly. I don't think anything that has a wide folded profile (like the Endura or Military) would fit very well.

Finally, I do believe that prigger ( wernerjonathon@hotmail.com ) could give you some good info regarding that little pocket, as I think that he works in a paraloft for the USMC.

Hope this helps.

As Griffon mentioned above, the plastic liner sheath is a special pocket insert and not really a sheath.

I would be very interested in your ideas about the sheaths. What specifically do you not like about them and how would you improve them?

The handles have been extensively tested with both wet and greasy hands, as well as in sub-arctic weather conditions and have been found to be both secure and comfortable (for most hands).

Cool,

The handle is secure then.

I am going to have a ballistic nylon sheath made. Probably by Frank Sigman.

Or a Kydex sheath. By a local guy.

Personally I do not like leather, I prefer man made materials, less maintenance.

Thanks,
