My brother came over today and wanted to test out a couple of my busse's so we took my FBM and AK out and chopped up some trees and a pallet.

The AK cut through 2 nails in the pallet like butter and it only left a small nick that you can barely even see.

I also used the AK to chop down a willow tree that was about 1.5 inches in diameter, with a good swing it would go all the way through.

I also practiced throwing my FBM and got it to stick in a tree a few times.

And a couple of pictures of the blades after.

It was awesome I had lots of fun!

neato! that is basically the extent of my knife use; good to see the ak holds its own.

Thencrow -- I've been wondering. How's the Zone of Percussion on that AK? By which I mean (old physicist that I am), how large and 'complete' is the region on the blade where you can strike an object solidly without creating vibrations in the handle? This is technically the same as the 'sweet spot' on your bat.

Staring at the design and estimating curvature, density, cross-section, and vibrational properties, I suspect the ZP is actually fairly large and about 2/3 of the way to the tip. But...I've been wrong before.

Middle daughter is a multiple black-belt in martial arts. She's been working with katanas recently, studying iai-do. Even arranged for me to purchase the personal cutter of an American tamishigiri master (now THAT is one amazing hunk of steel!). I sometimes wonder how a nice AK-47 would stand up against a cutting-grade katana...
