Finally broke out the airgun

I've been waiting all winter to be able to shoot! So I finally took my RWS Model 48 out of its case :-). I finished off the RWS Superdomes I had leftover (.177) and then loaded up the pellets a friend got for me, Crosman Hollow points. My only gripe with the crosmans are most of them fit very tight in the barrel, which i like, but some are loose. Inconsistency drives me nuts when i'm shooting because they all shoot different. I found with the RWS pellets they were all loose fitting in the barrel (not bad enough to permit blowby) but they were all the same size so i could just sight in and leave it. When i sight in for crosman pellets i take a handful of 10, shoot them all and figure out which there are more of, loose or tight. Then i sight in for the tight ones. If i get a loose one i try my best to compensate as they mostly shoot to the right side. I'm a pretty avid airgunner. Anybody else shoot? I started out with a crosman quest 1000 then got the scope for it which technically then it was a crosman quest 1000x then my grandfather gave me his rws model 48 and i haven't looked back. It's a good all around gun. It shoots amazing, good for hunting and accurate enough to compete target wise. Well, not the super guns which pretty much shoot themselves, but just friendly competition even if it's with a strictly target gun. It has a ton of lead put through it each season i can shoot. I shoot off hand or rested, but i shoot "rested" when sighting in. You can't necessarily shoot on a rest with a springer air rifle so i stand near a fence and have my hand on some lawnmower ramps for a truck that are propped up against it to allow the gun to do its thing and for me to stay stable. Then I just shoot offhand the rest of the time. Well enough of that I could go on and on!

I must admit to being an avid airgunner! I have found the Crossman Premiers to be pretty consistant. I run them in my BSA Lightning XL, Logun Solo and Mac 1LD with good results. Different guns have distinct likes and dislikes though!

I like the RWS Superdomes in my Career 707, they are VERY accurate and run through the magazine like butter!

I strongly believe that high quality adult airguns are the BEST (and most fun) way to get trigger time. Match grade ammo is CHEAP and you can shoot anywhere, anytime.

The only way to get good at off hand shooting is to do it a LOT!

Beeman used to offer a pellet sizer, which would form a pellet into a uniform size. The guys who shot in airgun matches swore by them.

Maybe something to look at if you are into wringing out the most accuracy from your rifle.

Many of the top field target shooters will actually weight their pellets and sort them by skirt size.... I am not shooting at that far of a distance or needing ultimate accuracy. As is my guns shoot much more accurately than most of my centerfire guns!!

Yeah, i've seen the sorters. I'm not that picky. I can tell if one will be on target or not when i put it into the barrel. I like the crosmans because they fit tight but you get those few loose ones and it throws off the POI. I wish the rws had the tightness the crosman ones do but kept the uniformity.

Here is a link you might find interesting... LINK

I have 5 of the resettable targets 2 different spinners, a set of silhouettes on spinners and a quadrant target. I set these out in the yard and pretty much leave them. LOTS of fun for me and my boys!
