I just finished it. I plum browned it and didn't like it. I blued it and didn't like it. I polished it and didn't like. I bead blasted it and I like that.

Thanks for the advice on the butt cap everyone.

Thanks everyone for the kind words. Boriqua,
LOA=8.5", Blade=4.5" 5160 for everything quenched in Crisco and tempered at 350.
The grip is deer antler and the tang has 4 spot weld lumps to help the JB Weld grip the steel. This is kinda like hidden pins just a little stronger (IMHO). The tang also has a barb cut fore and aft. This joins the grip and tang more tightly if the grip swells any.

The buttcap has a figure8 stud welded to the underside. This makes a very solid assembly with JB Weld. The guard is pinned and silver soldered. This was NOT made to be taken apart.

Thanks for the info Peter. That sure is a honey !!

Not only doesnt it sound like it was meant to be taken apart .... but from your Discription it was never meant to fall apart either

Love the forethought. Its good looking and built to be used !!!

Thanks for sharing the details

Peter, great knife! You're right, the finish is just perfect for it. After comparing that to your earlier post, I finally got a taste of what all my poor acquaintances go through here seeing half-finished knives...it really is hard to see the maker's vision so early on. You did real good with this one.

How is the butt cap attached?

Dave

Thank you Dave. I said that I welded a figure 8 stud to the bottom of the cap but that's not quite right. It's more coke bottle shaped...anyway the tang hole goes through but not as large in the rear as in the front. The cap is bedded in JB Weld and the stud is bedded in the JB Weld in the hole.
I have done this before on some beaters and have never had one loosen.

Great looking knife Peter. I really like the bead blast finish next to the handle material. It's got a really nice silky look to it. Sounds like it's built like a brick sh!t house to boot!
