HI, I'm looking to get an AK-47 but I would like to get a quality made European or American made one, any help would be much appreciated.

Can't go wrong with a bushmaster and they should be fairly easy to find.

For the price I got a Mini 14, but they are hard to find

Well, I have an AR-15 and a Mini 14 but I am looking to get an AK because 7.62 X 39 is such a good caliber and is so easily accesible that's why i am looking at an AK

i dont think bushie makes AK's so finding one wont be easy lol i imagine the guy is thinking "AR15".

i have a romanian AK74 and its been a good one, also have a pre-ban steyr maahdi '47but those are hard to find now, but between the romanian and the maahdi the romanian will hold its own in every regard except fit and finish, the maahdi wins that one, but everything else, accuracy, reliability, ergo's, pretty much a tie & the maahdi is supposed to be one of the better ones.

the ruger mini30 while its not a bad rifle is still saddled with no decent aftermarket mags, and i like the looks and ergo's of the AK a lot better than any mini & though i have a mini 14 and its ok i have never been overly fond of the things for a lotta reasons, mags is a big one though i suppose since they FINALLY decided to sell us decent mags for the 556 ones its a dead issue but i still prefer the AK it is imho just a lot better more rugged design and also at least as accurate if not more so, i also think the mini's are just too gosh darn high now for what ya get.

Just a point of informational wonderment.....

- an "AK" (as in AK47) denotes a fully automatic machine gun. We have begun to misnomer the semi-autos as AK's with the long standing assistance of the media.

Nathan- Is that what you are really talking about here, or do you want a semi-auto version of the AK patterned assault rifle? (MAK, VEPR, WASR, AK103, SLR100H, AK100, etc)

From this: http://www.firearmsfirst.com/?p=16 , read:

True AK-47 rifles are fully automatic.... next to impossible for the average U.S. citizen to get. Enter the semi-auto variants, from Chinese imports to U.S. manufactured receivers and parts, this is as close to legally owning a true AK-47 as the ordinary private citizen can get, in most states.

The answer is very different depending on where you were headed.

I agree Arsenal Inc. AKs are top notch Bulgarian rifles. Arsenal also has the Russian Saiga sporster rifles converted to AKs. These converted Saigas are about as close as you can get to a real Russian AK 47.
I've got about 1000 rounds through my Arsenal Inc. Bulgarian SLR-107CR with no problems and I love it.

The Yugoslavian AK 47s built for Century International Arms out of kits using D.C.I. receivers are really nice. You'll have to do some hunting to find one at a decent price. The Yugo AKs were available with a fixed stock or under folding stock and wood or synthetic furniture.

I suggest registering on The AK forum to see what other quality AKs builders are out there such as Rifle Dynamics, Lancaster, and so on.

If I was buying an AK I'd wait...prices are just too high right now.

How much do you want to spend?

a full auto AK47? who woulda figured...............

I have a 7.62X39 upper for one of my AR15 rifles and love the set up. It shoots the cheaper ammo and is very accurate.

I'm a big fan of Krebs Customs. Here is a link

+1 on the Yugos. But when I owned one they were pretty hard to find furniture for. Regular AK furniture wouldn't fit mine. But now they have a little more to choose from.

Just to clarify, I am looking for a semi-automatic ak-47 variant... I am NOT looking to get a fully automatic weapon. I have looked at some of the krebs and they look really top notch and will take a look at the others. I have also been looking at the AK because it is known to be so reliable. Thanks for the information

I am thinking about getting an AK myself and I do not mean in any way to hijack this thread but what are some good polymer AK mags I know you can get some Tapco poly mags are out there I saw them at Cabela's for about $20. I can start a separate thread for this if it makes better sense.

Actually, the 7.62x39 is somewhat of a turd of a cartridge, as is the 5,45 x 39 in its military form.. The Russians themselves discovered that when they started chambering AK-100's in 5.56 x 45 and lo and behold, much to their surprise, those rifles were MUCH more accurate. Now if you truly want a rifle that you can't hit the broad side of a barn with even while standing inside the barn, then go buy a Ruger Mini30 in 7.62x39:D
