Ok, guys....got my first Blade Show knife done...

But....um......while I will have it at the show...it won't really be for sale. :foot:

:p

But hey....you get to see it first here.

I always make a knife "for me" for the Blade Show....as I always have a new Hawaiian shirt made just for the show....you'll have to come to the show to see that one. ;)

Ok....here are the pics....enjoy!!!

For more information.....do a search on "EDC" here in my forum.

For those that have been following....this is the last revision...

Production starts later this summer.

Let me know what you think....and if this answers the question:

"How much blade and handle can you fit into a Fixed Blade EDC?!?"

;)

Dan

Yep.. sign me up  . Not that I'm trying to jump the gun but I'll take mine with blue/black G10. Are the JRE guys gonna be making the pants for these? Looks great Dan.

Dan didn't you end up selling your "not for sale" knife last year?I think it was a Burgundy and Carbon Fiber G-10 Bushcraft Blade.

Yes....I'm a sucker for $$$

:D :foot: :p

gmarthur - I'm with you ....this would look great in blue/black G10 and some JRE pants!

One thing I forgot to mention....this knife cuts like a laser....I ground it to 0.005" at the edge. Has just the slightest microbevel...but because of all the steel "behind the edge" (ie. support) it really cuts like a champ!

Dan

This knife is a dream for me....feels *just right* in every way. Size/weight/balance/legal-carry....carries good in leather, as well as kydex. I've EDC'ed fixed blades for about a year-and-a-half now...and this is by far the best I've done. I feel fortunate to have had the ability to finally design and create it.

Dan

So sweet looking. That is some really nice looking wood on the handle too!

Thanks, guys....has been on my belt everyday....those that were in the passaround know what it's like to EDC it....

I'm considering a 3.5" blade version as well....we'll see!

Dan

I just popped back in to take another look, and noticed that there is no swedge on this one, at least that I can see.

Since the pass around on the last two proto's I think about this knife all the time. That handle shape and size was perfect for my mits.

And as good as those were...this one is better (IMHO). :D

I decided to skip the swedge on this one....looking back, I like the look of the swedge better...but don't want to make it "sheeple-unfriendly"...so the jury's out on that right now.

Dan

Just a friendly neighborhood bump.

Are you still planning on a run of these Dan? I look at those pics of yours every few weeks and drool a bit.

me too!

:D

Yes - this one is still "on the boards"....but when I do it, I want to do it right. So, for now...I'm still in the design phase.

Incidentally, I have been wearing this one on my belt nearly every day since I made it (including right now!)

And I DID add a swedge to it. :D

**UPDATE**

I had another prototype cut out with a 3.5" blade...and out of 3/16" steel. I'll give it whirl and post results here. Thanks for the interest!

Dan

What would you guys think about a hollow grind?

I am starting to lean that way more and more....

Dan

Yes - on a 14" wheel.

My problem with the flat grind is that over time the edge will get thicker and thicker. (something I've noticed from having carried this one for a while now).

Plus with a hollow grind not only do you get a finer edge for longer....but you get better push cuts.

And since I'll be taking more material off with a hollow grind....I'm going to go ahead and leave more "shoulder" above the grind toward the spine. This will keep the weight/balance/strength about the same.

What kind of handles are you guys interested in?

Dan

I love the wood as long as it doesnt put the price out of range, canvas micarta is always hard to beat for EDC.

I was thinking about maybe just doing Black Canvas Micarta and that's it. Low cost, heavy-duty, can handle EDC tasks. And I would probably have the handles 3D milled.
