I picked up a Case seeahorse whittler in the exchange. Got it at a great price as a user and dropped it in my pocket, intending to play with it some. I was leaning against a counter and heard a weird click noise. I fished out the knife and saw that thw bone had split around a pin.

Anyone else have that happen before? Did you send it in for a repair or is there a "home remedy" that is reliable?

Epoxy is the only home remedy i know of. But i'd contact case and find out what their warranty on the scales is. The warranty info on their site does not mention wear and tear, only manufacturing defects so i would definitely call them.

Thats gotta be a terrible sound . I would definitely call Case. Hopefully they still have the same scales in stock.

Well, just be happy the bone wasn't yours. jk. I have dropped my Case many a times. Never anything serious. Sounds like a manufacturing defect.

God Bless

Might well be that there was a hairline crack in it all along. I examine all my new arrivals with a x10 magnifier. CASE has an excellent repair Dept.

Yep. Bone is a natural substance and without X-raying it there's no way of knowing if it has internal cracks.

I would send it to Case, the worse that can happen is that they won't do anything.

I'd call Case, but I have fixed horn handles by weeping in some Superglue with a toothpick. Just be sure that it doesn't wind up all over the place. You can clean up any excess with 1000-2000 grit auto sandpaper.

Ed,
You need to call the Dr. It sounds like osteoporosis. Try some calcium suplements, and drink more milk. I think Sally Fields is pitching a product for that.

Sadly there is a measure of truth in that. I will give them a call.
