First of all, Thanks Uncle Bill and Pala for the great PGA deal on the Chiruwa AK. It's my first HI, but not my last. I have a 20" GH Sirupati also. First impressions are that this is a blade meant to work. While the fit and finish are fine, this blade screams "Use Me!". I like the full tang on the Chiruwa, seems very strong. The chakma is good and hard, and the karda is well done. I can't believe what Bura can do with mostly hand tools and scrap metal.
My quandry is this. My HIKV is in full force, and I need (want?) another Khuk. What should I get next? I'll be using the AK this weekend to delimb a fallen tree, but I really won't be using them on a regular basis. Please make suggestions guys. Thanks again Uncle.

You might want to use your new khuk for awhile before asking for suggestions. After you've done some work with it, you'll get an idea what you want. Maybe you'll want something with a little more chopping power, like an 18" AK, or a lot more power, like a 20" AK or 22" GRS. Maybe something for light brush, like a Sirupati, kobra, or Chitlangi. Maybe something lighter for carry, such as a BAS or even a *whispers*12" khuk.

Of course, you'll probably end up with all of the above in due time.;)

I originally planned to get just three khuks: an AK as a dedicated chopper, a WWII or BAS as an all-purpose do everything, and a light, fast khuku like a Sirupati or Kobra.

Then I saw the Chitlangi, Malla, and M43 and i decided I want those as well so now my great plan is in tatters.... oh well...

I could suggest a line of progress in acquiring new Khuks, and even make up reasons for different styles....it's more fun to just sit back and watch the infection spread.....you get new Khuks because THEY ARE KHUKURIS HEH HEH HEH

I agree with Big Bob, use the AK for awhile and then decide.

Excellent choice on your "first" one:) I have a 15" Chiruwa AK that I absolutely love, I imagine the 16.5 would be just about perfect for mostly any job you could throw at it. Fun thing to try: find a log about 4ft long and prop it against your upper leg and use the khuk as a draw knife, holding onto the handle and the blade, pulling toward you. you want to use the curve of the blade, maybe a little on the side toward the tip. It works really well to remove bark. yesterday I even shaped a soft log into a thinner table leg shape.

Have fun!!
:D
